I'm still new to modeling, but I'm trying to practice and I'm always stumped what would be a good beginner project.
I'm dabbled with modeling guns and rooms, but I've never seen a project done from beginning to end.
And now I'm finally taking the time to do it, and I'm modeling a Colt 45 handgun, often found in Video Games, and I'm struggling with a certain part of the gun as shown below...

The arrow is pointing to the part where its an oval part near the barrel and it somewhat skews in, and im not sure what to do to model that.
I'm wondering if i have too much geometry right now and i need to restart and block it all out first then worry about detail.
Suggestions?
