...just an improvement on the previous cobcept...although i find it hard to show scale without a known living element in the scene...

more to come

Lookin' good Dimitris:thumbsup: That's a very busy image...... it'll take forever to model all that plantlife- that is unless you use paint f/x. Can't wait to see more- keep going!!! - 3DF.

Very nice sketches Dimitris.

I can't quite place what your two images remind me of, but it is something good. ;)

Great work so far, and I love all the gassy nebula in the BG. nice stuff!

Not referring to the pics, although they are very nice. I was actually wondering about your name. Specifically, if you don't mind, what nationality you were. The only reason I ask is because your last name sounds very Greek, and your first name as well is a very common Greek first name. Am I right, or just crazy...

HI great work so far, what software do you use for your concept art? is it Zbrush?

@ Xtronik ... Hi man , i hope u will be on this challenge so we can see really cool stuff man!!!

@ 3D Freak,AtomAton Thanks guys, i know it is really very busy pic..and as far as Paint F/X are involved..i don't know if it is allowed to to use them in modeling of a 3D scene...
(maybe it's ok...we 'll see).
Software used to make my concept so far is Maya and specifically Paint F/X on Maya Canvas....i didn't use anything else.
I will post more concept though , 'cuase i still haven't achieved the feeling of BIG space and area that is requested by the challenge rules..we 'll see...

@ Shin_Iori ...yes i am Greek , i live in Athens and i had a BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING 2 weeks ago....lol:beer:

@ DSedov , adr thanks guys....

@ Zr-1 ....hahah maybe it reminds u []JACK and The Beenstock[/] ....:wavey:

p.s : forgive me if the drawings may have basic errors or are bad pics ... i am not much of a painter....more concepts are coming soon...

I clicked on your image in the cgchallenge area before realising I followed your work in progress in the last challenge. It's cool to see who's stuff consistently sticks its head above others. Thanks for the technical inspiration. I was wondering how I was going to sketch gas and clouds in pencil ... duh!

adr
10-24-2003, 05:49 PM
i like it , maybe you can play little more with some light behind this clouds

the 2 sketch looks great , i prefer the first one but you can mix it and add the clouds to the first one

Great works man :)

10-24-2003, 08:41 PM
Thanks guys for your kind words but i really think this is going to be more difficult than i thought.
Two problems
1... I can't yet show scale without any physical variable
(creature, rocket, animal...)
2....I really need something like stone or water to build on...

...:wip: more thoughts as concepts are coming.

thank u for your kind words.

-OZ- ...i am happy that u are on this one!!!:wavey:

I am just curious what you are thinking.....you crazy man. Nice to see you around. Give us more more more.

Cullen
10-26-2003, 05:59 AM
You might be able to show scale by having something in the foreground (like a plant) that gets heaps smaller as it goes into the background. Like looking straight up at a building.

I like the "sketch". I can't believe this is just a sketch. I was expecting a scrappy drawing with crayons. Anyways... good stuff.

Wow Dimiris, that last painting is outstanding. I think the vegetation has too much of an earth-like quality, but the overall look is great. I'll be following this one for sure...

BTW, how does your new bride feel about your alienware challenge honeymoon, she must like powerful computers too :D.

Send us all some fresh baklava if you win (or if you don't).

Pufferfish
10-27-2003, 12:10 PM
Your last painting is surely awesome! I like the feeling of it. It is almost like you are watching from totally safe and warm location to something big and wonderful..but also kinda scary happenings.

Excellent work ..keep em coming!

ZrO-1
10-27-2003, 01:47 PM
Pufferfish is right. That last one is a beutiful piece, really nice feel to it, but apocoplyptic at the same time. Maybe it the gasses getting sucked off to the other planet in the sky :p

Great work either way :D

markw7
10-27-2003, 03:41 PM
Nice. I wonder how much 3D is going to be required though? Lots of vast colorful spaces seem to suggest just a few large blobs and paintfx, plus plants and such. I guess I'd suggest a more solid object in the foreground, particularly as a response to your scale question from before...

DimitrisLiatsos
10-28-2003, 07:16 AM
@ swag, Xtronik ...Thanks guys for your kind words.

@ JDex Thanks man and....lol My new Bride feels a litle bit wierd among my two little monsters (pc) here at home but i think i made up for her 'cuase we went to Venice - Italy for our honeymoon so she is like ...honey now...lol....oh and BAGLAVA with ....OUZO is coming...lol

@ Pufferfish , ZrO-1,markw7 Thanks guys , u make me very happy 'cuase i am no painter and i was trying to achieve what Pufferfish described so elegantly, seems that i did something right....but there is still something missing on the right side of this picture which will increase that feeling and will give the sense of scale and lonelyness very well...i think....

...Update on the last concept is coming soon

Thanks markw7 u gave me a great idea!!!!

Well i hope this is my final basic concept...The story goes like this ..
You are one of a two person shuttle that landed after a serius damage on a uncharted planet...u feel wierd and a little bit afraid as u see your co-pilot watching from the edge of that cliff to the planet above the one u are, which is sucking up the orange glowing gas of your planet surface...u think only one thing....U got to get out of here quickly or u have to go down the cliff and see if there is any life ...u ask yourself..
Is Anyone There?

Clanger
10-29-2003, 02:09 PM
I like it, nice and eerie. On-wards and up-wards to the modelling, can't wait to see how it goes.

That last image is fantastic. I like this concept.. maybe lacking a bit of perspective? though I don't really know how this could be fixed. But that's what I feel.

Keep up the good work! I'll try to show some stuff soon for my part.

dude that last one rocks :surprised

great mood. Following you close

markw7
10-29-2003, 04:26 PM
That works really well. Totally resolves the scale issue. And its very pretty. Might want to check the rules though: "life forms are nonexistent". Maybe its not so hard and fast a rule...

markw7
10-29-2003, 04:30 PM
I love the dropoff underneath the tree limb -- creates tension in the image, a sense of danger. What if an object replaced the character, though? Just a suggestion.

KotsVlok
10-29-2003, 04:43 PM
Yup, the final concept is very alien-ish...great job on those concepts, good luck!

DimitrisLiatsos
10-29-2003, 07:31 PM
@ m@. Thank you man , i think i understand where u see this lack of perspective ..it's because i amsuch a crapy painter...lol

@ Clanger, JDex,KotsVlok,Garma Thanks guys i have some serious work to do on this when it comes to 3D , i hope i won't dissapoint anyone....:wip:

@ markw7 Thanks man...u must be right about that on the rules...does this mean that i can't show the person that is seeing the enviroment.?..does it have to be on first person only?.............i hope MODS are reading this and hopefully will give me an answer...otherwise i will have to create a new species and put it on the cliff..lol (maybe this could be the solution)

help on this matter would be apreciated.....Also does anyone know if i can use Paint FX at their POLYGON form ..or they are not allowed in the contest?

Hi Dimi........:wavey:

Love the colors,oh the colors, tones and overall presentation are beautiful.I believe you should give the whole theme you have now more of an expansive feel, more vast, streatch the horizon.

Garma thanks ...the warm lighting is just a test in photoshop to see the feeling in that kind of light...which i think i will have in my final scene..and yes the base for this render was Paint fx in Maya...as rattlesnake said ;) ....

But not anymore ...see next pic for explanntions

really nice stuff, however i think u should push the alien concept further with your plants. theres no doubt the judges will be looking for something more along the lines of the description and i would hate to see this project cut out for those reasons. because you have awesome talent. other than that the plant looks very professional; is there subsurface scattering in there?

@ formoso thank u for your kind words and advises. I hope i will be able in the final image to give the alien look i imagine and still be on the rules..although the plant u just becuase of the texturing and light ..i think could be on a distant planet ...i hope!!!...and no sub surface scatter...just transparencies and glow shaders

@ Poju ...hi man....nice one...best wishes for the new year! :wavey:

@ the1st_angel ..thank u...nice work u have their on your thread...i really hope i will have the time to finish...(commercial for Toyota Yaris in progress for me as a gift for Cristmass from the studio i work for...which finishes at 7 Jan 2004..so i will have only 10-13 days for the challenge...)
