First of all I like your concept design a lot. It's a very interesting character. In response to your questions about color, proportion and lighting, I think there are a few things I can help you out on.
The colors are a bit over saturated, especially the purple face. You're going to want to keep your shadows more saturated than your mid-tones and highlights on the fabric. On the metallic surfaces you're going to need the opposite.

Sorry, I accidentally posted before I was finished. Anyway, here is the rest. The proportions of the face seem all right to me. The only thing that might need to be fixed is the forehead. I know there is a hat/crown covering most of it up, but the way it wraps around makes the forehead look to short. The main problem with the lighting is that it's not clear exactly which direction it's coming from. I think you said it's supposed to be coming from the front. You might try putting the light source off to one side instead. That way you'll have more highlights and cast shadows with obvious directions.
