View Full Version : importing DEM files into MAYA 5 on OS X
swardson 10-20-2003, 09:30 PM I am trying to import DEM (Digital Elevation Model) files into MAYA 5.0 on 0S X. If there is a pluggin out there to do this for me then great. The only thing I have figured out is to with a 3rd party program take the raw DEM data and change it into a grey scale image and then use that image as a dissplacement map in MAYA. However I do not have a 3rd Part program to change the data into an image for OS X. If anyone has any ideas or advice that would be great. Thanks.

Musicraker, please post Maya-related questions directly in the Maya forums from now on - I've moved this one for you :)

AFAIK, you cannot import DEM data directly into maya. The best DEM reader for mac that I have found is a freeware software called MACDEM.
you can find it at

import your dem data, change to Grayscale black/white, Turn off lighting, then export as a tiff.
This little app makes great height maps that work fine in maya.

And what about windows program?, I´m seeking for that too.
