WOW! Flawless auto! This is the most realistic and finely modeled car that I have ever seen. If it weren't for the driver-less auto in the third pic I would have sworn they were photos!!

5 stars from me.

Supreme. Really got that silver paint down, too. Nice site and other cars there as well. Is this one of the ones you had to make from scratch or did you have CAD info? The model is just perfect.

And on the second picture the cars seems to have a red dot there on the car that looks like reflection from a traffic light!

DIMO

Thanks for the excellent rating!

Just some info on the pictures:

As some of you have guessed, I had access to CAD - Data. So the credits for modeling go to Daimler Chrysler. Although the Mesh had to be cleaned up (stitching patches together etc.)
Missing parts (lights etc.) were modeled with Subdivison Surfaces.

Final Render has been used for rendering. All Shadows are baked into texture maps. No raytracing was used. Everything with reflection maps. So rendering was really fast and it doesn't flicker in the animations.

Bye,

Dieter

Doesn't make the model any less cool.

That said, it's still a really damn nice car, all those little touches that make it real, and the cleanup, I'm sure that wasn't a very efficient mesh when handed off.

So while not as hardcore as making it all yourself, still an excellent end result, and worthy of kudos :)

XSI Base's Markman real first name is indeed Markus.... The guy even won the first prize with this image when we held the contest last year. I guess there is no way to know what renderer he really used.... :annoyed:

The car is the same. He rendered it in Mray for the XSI contest (i remember he said he wanted to try XSI workflow) and in finalRender for the other pics. It's simple :)

fine, but the xsibase competition rules were to build a car "from scratch" during the month the competition ran........

He did everything in XSI, rendered in Mray then decided to stay on Max and took all the work in Max and rendered it with finalRender.
