This is my first attempt at HDRI lighting. I wanted to use a new model, not something I had already done, so I looked around and modeled the first thing I saw, a PS2 controller. I used Lightwave 7.5c and Photoshop for textures.

Hm, a bit low-poly? And it seems very flat...

it's 2420 polygons.

well....the proportions are wrong man, and the shaders are different from a ps2 joystick..

nice lighting

pZion is right, it does look low-poly. If you look around the major curved pieces you can quite clearly see the polys.

Did you turn on 'Shading Noise Reduction' and AA, there seems to be a fair amount of noise, unless that was intentional.

Oh now i know what you mean by low-poly. I wasn't sure what was being referred to. Unfortunatly I did have low anti-aliasing and shading noise reduction on. I'm not quite sure what will get rid of the noise/moire effect.

Did you turn surface smoothing on in the shader panel?

Try a higher level of AA - say medium, this might help.

Okay I've made vast improvements to the image, it seems a poorly made HDR image was the culprit here. I also added some more polygons for detail.

Well I think you obvioiusly need to look at your controller properly and you will see that what you have modeled there is not the same thing. You need to look at proportions as was mentioned. I mean if you look at it yourself, I'm sure you can see that it doesn't look right.
As for the lighting, I have no problem with that, good job.

i don't know the PS2 controller really, but the image looks quite good to me. The comments are already given, nothing to add

I know I probably should always model the best I can, but when I first made this I wasn't shooting for super realism, I was just making something quick and simple that I could use to play with HDRI lighting. SO due to that I didn't exactly measure everything, a few things I did but the rest I just eyeballed to get it gerenrally the right shape. Thanks Olafk

yeah, the circular parts of the main section are way too big

Actually those and the space in between them are what I did measure. I think the problem may be that the hand grips are too small.

oh yeah, good point, now that i look @ it, you're right

The Handles don't look right. It's like they're not completely rounded.
