There is something going on with the left eye... I think is deeper inside that the right one. Fixing that alone would improve the image. Also it appears that the bridge of the nose is too thin in relation with the nostrils.

Like the hair... was it painted?

yes, I think you are right... :p I made it to test the hair, I made it with Shag Hair... ;)
