Hello everybody!

For a current project i'm trying to make a "pulse" or a "burst" of light.

an Emitter in space creates a small globe which scale bigger and bigger.
The globe itself should be almost invisible, but the intersecting parts between globe an remaining environment should light up and glowing.

The environment is dark, it should light up following the "intersection", staying light for a short while an become dark until the next "pulse" moves by.

A little bit like the patronus in Harry Potter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Azyhq-gwk-M (at 0:23-0:31 )

There is no footage in the Project, everything is complete CG.

Main work is done Maya and i hope there is a way to do this.

I dont know if this is post work or not. It would be great if someone has an idea or expierience with this type of effect.

would you like to post a screenshot from one still that gets close to the effect you describe ?
in the harry potter scene many shots do have just masked overexposed gradients.

so if you have one specific shot I can try to re-create.
