View Full Version : Texturing rose
MYSTIKL 01-30-2011, 02:29 PM Hi! I've been trying to texture a rose using the sss fast skin shader in 3ds max and I being the noob that I am it is not turning out so great. I'm using a normal bump map, specular map for the first specular layer, a fresnel falloff map for the second layer and for reflection , a subdermal scatter collor map and subdermal scatter weight map,. For lighting I used a 3 point light system and a hdr map and GI on.This is what I got so far, as you can see the specular is giving some trouble.

P.S. The purple-ish tinge is from another object in the scene.

I don't know... maybe you could post a second image highlighting the problem area?
as far as I see it... there is no problem?
the image looks great!

Thanks for the reply mekaron7 and you're right, I should have been specific, but I thought the problem was noticeable. I want the petals to have a softer look, I don't know if it's from the bump map or the specular map, but it's got a plastic feel to it at the moment. So basically I'm looking for ideas on how to achieve a softer looking surface on the petals.

Hi,
Maybe you could crank up the SSS to make the petals more translucent and they may come off a bit softer?
