I started to block the colors, but I want to make some new experiments, specially on the vests and pants.
BTW, really cool contest!
After some changes in the colors I started to play with the diffuse of the head... C&C are most welcome! ;)

Here's an up.. Worked more on head's diff.. Unfortunately I think that I won't have time to finish this challenge but I'll really try to make it.
Now I started to play with spec even with the head diffuse unfinished yet.. But now it's too late here in Brazil so it's time to sleep, tomorrow will be a hard day work.

A promising start. Try to avoid uniform details in your organic textures. If you look at a striped animal, for example, you'll see that the different stripes are different lengths and don't run perfectly parallel to one another. Also study how colour variations occur on animal skin - the edges of stripes are not straight, but usually rather jaggy when viewed up close. Also avoid having spots and other markings without colour variations within them - I can see that the spots you've added to his head are flat coloured - within each spot, there should be subtle variations of colour.

I decided to start defining the materials and base of the entire model (cloth, leather,...) instead of detailing just one area like I was doing with the head. As I don't have experience texturing I don't know what's the best workflow but I can see more progress doing in this way.. So, after finish this step I'll back to the head and make the changes..
I'm not sure about the red, maybe I'll change this to orange... really don't know. Also not sure about the B movie style "Cyber Cephalopod" text I created on the shirt..
