View Full Version : Spreading grass patches and trees to make a forest?

I'm pretty new to softimage, so I just wanted to touch bases with those experienced on what would be the best way to spread MR proxies around a bumpy plane to make a forest?

Is there some way to paint Proxies onto a surface, and have them align based on surface normal?

Or is there some fancy thing that could be done with ICE?

Hello, if you want to scatter things, the best way is using ICE, you could use proxies and scatter them with ICE, thats kinda easy process.

Thank you, this will be very useful.

Do you, or anyone, also know of a way to place singular proxies that will be automatically aligned to a surface with random rotation/scale?

With ICE, that can be done by adding some randomization with some extra nodes in the tree.

There are some scatter plugins too, have a look in the Tools section of XSIBase if you don't want to dive into ICE straight away, or want to keep it simpler.
