Smc 57 (1.10.2011 - 2.14.2011)
- The speed modelling challenges are open to everybody.
- In every challenge you will get a list of items. Pick one and try to model it as fast as possible. If you want, you can do all of them.
- Do not exceed the time limit of the challenge. If you're out of time and still haven't finished, post the unfinished model.
- If you finish before the time limit, spend the remaining time on refining and adding details to your model.
- Focus on modelling. Shading, lightning and "proper" rendering are optional (and thus not limited by time).
- Take as much time for reference hunting as you need.
- When posting your model make sure you post a wireframe of your model. (try to do more then one view of the model).
- You can do any challenge you want. The challenges are not closed when the SMC passes. If you fancy an older challenge, do that.
- For the concept items you have to create your own designs. If possible post the design images as well.

Made the decision this time to make the speed modeling go along side with the Concept 5 session. Just as last time the time limit is very general, 3 hours. I posted the rules above again but the way I see it for me it is ok to post the finished model if you want, just post where you are after the deadline and then in another post your finished model and the time frame that it took.

Man, I move like a slug. I don't know why I couldn't get the whole thing built in the three hour limit.

Had a go at speed modelling the Puerto Vallarta arch. Took me about two hours. I'll have a go at something more complex soon. I just needed to get back into the habit of modelling.
First time I ever timed myself for a model. 2 hours. Wires are the way I modeled it and then smoothed each object a couple of times. Modeled in Maya, renders in V-Ray

I have been working on some furniture and a scene lately, also some gravity settings and such. Hopefully one learns a little here and there.
I tried some different approaches on the grenade, guess it became rather simple in form.
Grenade, 1 hour (approx)
Ok, so apparently twitpic hates cgsociety but those images are definitely there now.
Btw, nice job with the grenades.
NTE, thank you. I can see three of your pictures now, tap and a sink. Very nice job there. :)
Tried some more on the grenade and made another simple one to try to feel the form a bit more.
I do think some details has to be deeper on a grenade, interesting try to replicate it.
Gonna make a more finished one and see if I can get the detail that I want.

Good job everyone! Here's my entry.
Time: ~1 hour
Software Used: 3ds max
First speed modeling I've tried. I'm a beginner, so don't expect anything advanced quite yet.
I'm quite satisfied with the result, though I know some things that i could have done better.
(BTW I clicked on "Tesselate" by mistake and forgot to remove the action, so that's why the poly/wire/face count is "doubled" on the wireframe pics or how to describe it.)

roxburry, thank you. :) yea quite complicated a simple grenade actually, hmm better keep trying to perfect the shape.

This looks like fun :) I like early aviation and one of the options was an airplane, so I had a go at this one (Hols der Teufel Albatros). It took 3 hours but half of that was me forgetting how to do the basic setup and needing to start again :banghead: which probably means I should do this sort of thing more often...

@Gryshnak : Good job for jumping back into it! Yea...nothing says "Man I can't believe I'm sucking right now...!" like a speed modeling challenge! Welcome to the club.
MSus still not around I guess, hmm.
Is there someone who wanna post the speed model sessions?
I was only helping out temporary here.....

Hi, here is my entry
I've tried more detailed rubik cube. It was fun :) so I decided to post it on form. I only had some trouble with radius on corner piece.
Time used: ~2h

Hey god-of-zilla, I wouldn't mind helping out. Can't promise for longer terms but i'll be available for another couple of months. I can do it every two weeks.

Otherwise we tried with that William's idea for a while... ...seems to be low on participation though, however these model session were pretty low in participation aswell.

My wife told me she could start em if people wanted. However so do not model anything so her stuff might go from way to easy to way to hard, hehe
Anyways, she can start up, tomorrow if needed.
And if she startes em, should it be 1 week / 2 week / 1 month pr round with new stuff?

Well, thing is I tried to hand it over but no one started it. ....Well; we tried Williams idea with the daily routine basis, he said he was gonna develop it a bit more though.
I am gonna try to do one SMC monthly now, see that one posted at March 20 which ends April 20th.
If anyone of you have ideas about SMC's or wanna add one every other week or every week feel free to do so.
It's hard with items though, I feel the more simple the better since it is speed modeling that we are dealing with.
That's my thought about it anyway. :)
