Could anyone help me with a few problems I am having

1. When I do a Booleans operation on two objects the manipulator (XYZ thingy) always moves miles away from the object. So when I select the object to move it slightly along the x-axis is nowhere near the object.

Do you know how to move the manipulator back in the centre of the object?

2. Secondly when I perform a Booleans operation sometimes the object disappears completely, for example I was trying to combine a box and two cylinders so first I selected the box then the first cylinder performed the operation and everything went fine, then I select the new object and the second cylinder and performed the operation only to find the object has disappeared.

Any advice would be helpful thanks

P.S. I am a novice so I apologise if any of what I have said is glaring obvious to a regular user.

hello,

to center the manipulator select your object and choose Modify/Center Pivot.
you can also select the object and hit the INSERT key (while in transform, rotate or scale mode) then Vkey+middle mouse button on a vertex of your object. sounds complex but its simple if you try and a good way to put the manipulator wherever you want it to be.

hope this helps, we were all novices once ;) and every day finding new things to learn... good luck!

ps.
you should search the forum on problems people have had with boolean operations in Maya... some would say they are evil and that you should not use them.
