View Full Version : lost manipulators...help?
giantrobot 06-01-2002, 04:54 PM so, my favorite thing about maya has always been the amazing poly-face extrude manipulator. it is what keeps me from doing modelling in Max...but i have a problem:
i lost the #%@^ing manipulator! the face extrude still works fine, but the great trans/rot/scale manipulator is gone.
can anyone tell me how to get it back? Maya 3.5 on the Mac.
thanks in advance

same problem here - funny enough i just found out that doing an extrude face with history on gives me the manipulator - doing the same without history doesn't give me anything 'til i choose a manipulator
i have no idea - that's a pref somewhere?

This is correct behavior. Not a pref or a bug. When you extrude a face with history on, the extrusion happens instantly (you can see the input added to the object's history). The Show Manipulator Tool (that multi-tool gnomon) is acting on the parameters of that historical node. That's what the the Show Manipulator does. You can see it acting in the exact same way when you project UVs.
When you turn history off, no upstream node is created for the Show Manipulator to act upon.
A cool thing to keep in mind is that if you have an object with several extrusions in it's history, you can grab the Show Manipulator tool and click on the names of the polyExtrudeFace nodes in the channel box and get the same visual control over that point in history that you had when you created it.
Short answer: turn history back on.
