View Full Version : Is Visual studio express sufficient for plugin development

Hi,
I just had a doubt whether the free version of visual studio(visual studio express) is sufficient to start developing plugins for maya.Or do we need to get the full version one.I am working on maya 2011 x64 on winXp64.Please help me out

as far as i know its more than enough, the only thing is you would not get the templates you need to manually configure it for compiling

Don`t know if that changed for vs2010, but for vs2008 you cannot compile x64. Then you should look here:

It's fine. Make sure you download and install the windows platform SDK too...

Thanks for the info Rob.I have one more query.Can I use MSVC 2010 too to write plugins for maya 2011?Also I am using winXP 64.I came across couple of SDKs at the microsoft download center.Could you shed some light on which version I should be installing?
