been playing with sub-d in maya a bit, making a simple model for character animation, but i ran into a couple of problems:

1) i've been told that in maya , you just need to select the faces on which you want a texture/material, and then drag/drop a material on it. But when i'm in polygon proxy mode, this doesn't work, then the material/texture goes on the whole model. In standard sub-d mode it has worked but more of that in question 2. :) Is this a normal behaviour?

2) when being in normal sub-d mode, i selected a couple of faces, let's say the shoe, and drag/drop a material on it, and the material is randomly applied to serveral different faces on the whole model, on faces which i didn't even select. And there were some faces from the boot which i had selected that didn't have the new material either. Even i indivudually select them and apply the material, they won't take it. What am i doing wrong??

thx in advance

is your UV mapping correct?

i don't think i need any, cuz it's just a material with a colour on it , nothing else.
Well you don't need to uvw map it in max, if you do this kinda things, maybe it's neccesary in maya, i don't know
