View Full Version : Character: Dark-haired female
allenatl 10-15-2003, 06:07 AM Still tweaking. Just starting the polygon hair, so it will get thicker and better defined with added layers. No facial textures yet. Software: Lightwave. Spline-model with a lot of polygon and subdivision editing.
Need modeling critiques. Any advice on specific facial areas is appreciated-what's working, what's not.

The top lip is too "puffy" in the profile. This makes the mouth look a bit off in the other views. The area from the base of the nose to the lip should be more concave not convex.
The only other thing I can se right now is that the jaw line isn't right, it's too rounded from cheek to the base of the jaw and too shallow. The bottom of the jaw is basically flat between the chin and the throat (unless she is supposed to be fat. . . but the rest of the face doesn't fit that assumption.)

Thanks, Dhin. Getting everything to look correct from all different angles is always a problem for me. Your comments about the lips and jaw helps. I'll try to work on those areas tonight.

I don't want to see indifferent but it seemed better before.
You had that partially open mouthed sexy look that is ever so difficult to portray and you lost it in your recent update.
Did you save from an older file? I'd go back and work from there
I feel if you just gave the skin surrounding the nascal holes(those things that go out when your nose flairs) Attached a quick paintover to what I mean.
Since you already added the lashes, work more on the skin texture and such once you rework the nose. Get a scan of some real skin(if that's the look you're going for) and work in a kickass skin shader.
Makes all the difference, that is if you're just leaving it as a head!
Also the ear looks a bit too sharp. Model it so it's not soo perfect.

Looking freaking awesome.

i also like more the first one...
at quick glance i can say that eyes are maybe too shallow...
and you should really work on that jaw line...
try making compromise between that mouth sexy look and normal upper lip...
one thing more is that you should make neck wider at the base... especially back part where trapezoids are starting...
hope this helps...

Thanks for the comments. I'll try to move back toward the look of the first version. If all else fails, I've got that old version saved so I can just go back to it.
I can't seem to get rid of that puffy top lip though. Not quite sure if I'm moving points in the wrong direction or what. I'll keep working on it.

She completly lacks eyebrows... and I don't mean the hair, but the bones (the part of the skull) that defines the area above the eyes.
Otherwise it is looking good, but she uses a but too much lip gloss ;)

Working on texture maps and lighting. I'm getting some odd shadow artifacts above the left eye and other areas. What causes this? Also any advice on texturing is welcome.

OMG this looks exactly like Lucia Moniz. She was recently in a movie called Love Actually...dunno just thought it was weird. Wondering if you were using that as a reference pic.
Webpage (http://www.2020multimedia.com/ecards/lucia/lucia.html)
I think the bottoms of the cheeks (the hollows?) need to protrude just a little more, it's too sharp now. And the area between the brows and eyes are really weird...it's not very smooth...but it's all a matter of tastes.
Personally, I think she has an overbite...maybe move the mouth back a little.

heres a quick reference image for you. its not of a sexy female, but as you can see, the face of your model goes WAYYY too far out. notice where the neck starts on this statue. its around 1/2 way of the jaw. for a female you can pull it further out by just a bit, but dont overdo it.

Thanks for the helpful critiques, guys.
hpslashluvr: I'll work on the cheek area. I adjusted it earlier and it made her look older. In the process, I probably flattened it too much.
ambient-whisper: I'll check the the neck and chin area and adjust it.
Will post an update along with the reference pics that were used.

Update.
Adjusted the chin and tried to get rid of the box shape around the cheeks. May need to adjust the circled area of the neck muscle where it's supposed to run behind the ear.
Also posting the original reference photos.I'm not trying to get a likeness obviously. I just used the reference as a starting point.
