huhu everyone

so i do have a question bout cinema 4d:

everytime i render with HDRI, ok, looks really sweet but sometimes i would like to have the typical look of those texture-lightended renderings, but too, a typical set of Key, Fill and Backlightig just for the dramturgic part of the scene, maybe a darkish and nightly look or little room or a very long to made light setup for the effects.

i tried just to mix both lighting methods, but the picture is over-lighted, or the light setuo cant be seen because of being to weak.

anybody expirience with this here or some tips at hand?

thanks in advance

Try setting the lights' brightness between what they were when it was too bright and what they were when it was too dim. :)

Paul Everett's Sniper Pro plugin makes radiosity lighting *much* less time consuming. It doesn't give you a 100% preview of how the full-size render will look, but close enough to help a lot.

HDRI and GI in general shouldn't be the final solution for lighting imho, i always see them as a sobstitute for the fill light in a classic 3 lights env.

Have you ever tried duplicating the object with a GI unchecked compositing tag on the second one? I don't know it this works, but you should give a try.

By the way, I have a similar problem too. I used radiosity (no HDRI) with normal 3 point lightning setups, and the main light was casting shadows, because sometimes radiosity shadows aren't enough dark, and this way you can control the amount of shadows. But how can I control the shadows with a HDRI lightning? GI spheres with luminance channel have no such options. Now my HDRI scenes look flat because of the missing shadows...

Make a second sphere where you have set the contrast much higher. The brighter part will then act more as lights.

Try a map with only a white dot on. It will work as a light source.

Put the HDRI map in the enviroment channel it speeds up render times and allows for normal lighting...
