Finally managed to get some concept, i know im two weeks late ;), but hopefully I will do it in time. Anyway, I'll make a small planet, with little forest and two houses, river flowing around the planet. On the right side of the planet will be the day, on the left - night (it's not present on the sketch yet). Im not sure about the style yet, probably it won't be realistic.

Nice idea:beer:
can't wait to see the 3d version

yes really good idea

I like the idea a lot, it's just the size, a tad small to be a forest, and the house, look a tad 'normal' to look enchanted, imo totally

good luck

hehehe It reminds me of King Kai's planet from Dragonball Z. Cool stuff.

ZrO-1:
I don't know anything about Dragon Ball , so it's coincidence;)
Adam :
I'll make the forest more 'enchanted', the house also will be more unreal

Quick update of the sketch: day and night - i'll try to achieve something like this:

I like the idea. Espacially the day and night part.

I really want to see it in 3D.

good work and keep on going

Azazel - your concept reminds me of something from the book "The Little Prince" :)
This one will be very cool when you do it in 3D
Hehehehe one thing though - if a planet is orbiting a sun, then half of it is always in night (just like our planet ;) )...

hey nice idea!!
i cantwait for this one!!
itd be so cool to have the contrasting sides, on the dark side (hehe) you could have a nice and starry sky, wit little beasties runing around, and on the other side you can have all rainbows and easter bunnys!!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

azazel

Thanks everybody:)
mrmark: i like your idea of little beasts, but i'm not sure of the bunnys;)
Leigh: I know this book, idea of very little, inhabited planets is what i like best from this book...

Now I have to start modelling...

The concept has changed quite much. Day and night idea is still, but the forest will be completely different. Don't have any sketches for it, but here's WIP of the main tree and the planet:

azazel

Planted the forest...
Without MultiBevel from Meshtools and DrawEx maxscripts it would be veery difficult

havent you got the idee of dragon ball z
cause thy have the same planet there as on your drawing :-):applause:

:applause:
great start ,u really have a nice tree
but I think the plant must be larger than that .

azazel
06-13-2002, 08:23 AM
Intruder: don't know Dragon Ball, don't even like manga...
Dodo3d: planet is like it should be...

and here's update:
http://strony.wp.pl/wp/az.azel/wip21.jpg

for now its more than 3 000 000 faces, renders in Vray, with GI, HDRI lightning and antialiasing in over 10 minutes (480x640), and i still add more...

azazel

That to show the progress:

and here are efects of playing with displacement (finally used bump, displ. was too slow):

Looking forward to more!

Is your tree only a bump map?
well defanatly cool, but your image is really big and i mean really big. for me here at school it took me quite some time to load it and we have a own server. So maybe you can post a smaller pic for the peeps with low speed connections.
I'm quite currious on how you have done the leaves.
and what programm you are using:applause:

azazel
06-13-2002, 12:57 PM
sorry for the big file, JPEG compression makes it very ugly, I will post some smaller in a few days.
I'm using max, leaves are simple leaf-shaped objects with texture (no opacity mapping, it would render too long), scattered by PCloud particle system inside deformed geosphere (about 200), snapshotted, and resulting mesh scattered once more around the branches (also inside deformed geosphere) . And yes, tree is only bump map...

Lower res image:

azazel
06-16-2002, 10:09 AM
Optical grass multiplying:
on the right image you see lot of bald spots beetwem grass strands. On the left side there are no bald spots, due to the proper texture (amount of grass is the same as before). Texture was made by placing a plane in the place of the planet, scattering as much grass as possible on it, and rendering it. Next it was planar mapped onto the planet...

ZrO-1
06-16-2002, 06:28 PM
I really LOVE all the textures. They are some of the best I've ever seen.

I just have one crit. In my eye the planet looks too small. I think it needs to be at least as large as the main tree's leaf silhoete(sp?). What I mean is right now the top of the tree reads as being heavier than the planet it grows out of. IMO it think that the planet should be a bit bigger to balence the compasition more.

Very pretty :) Reminds me of the myth of Ygdrasil - the world tree.

Meshtool I can find, but could you perhaps elaborate on DrawEx?
And it's quite the pretty image you've got going, it has a very impressive look to it. I'm liking the current proportions. I'm still rooting for some night/day action though :bounce:

gaggle: Draw EX you can find here:http://www.scriptspot.com/download.asp?ID=1733 ,
it's similar to lightwave's Magic Bevel, you extrude faces along free-hand drawn spline. Very useful, although it's still 0,9 cersion, so has some bugs.
ZrO-1: I'll think about it, probably would be easier to scale down tree, not scaling up the planet;)

Next update soon

 That IS looking AWESOME!!!!!!!! Well done!! The only crit I have is that the water doesn't look quite right.... But other than that - it's perfect!! :applause:

I think its excellent but you might want to try fiddling with the background. That plain blue just doesnt work with your perrty world thing.:buttrock:

azazel

Leigh: thanks, I know about the water, it's temporary for now.
AroundTheFur: I have sone problems with getting decent sky. I don't like plain blue also...

anyway, i can't wait to see the textured tree, it looks lovely....

Vray uses that funky micro-poly architecture for displace doesn't it??

try more varied greens..........

When you're done with this, I think you'd have no problem with illustration agencies or getting illustration work direct with advertising agencies.

Very nice.

Oh, and by the way, the water sucks ;-)

Have just done two quick tests of sky, including day and night. Don't know what to thimk about them...

Second one:

yeahhhhhhhhhhh

luv it...the rendering of the last one is very very clean with very nice colours !!!

excellent !!!

Kaos
06-21-2002, 08:51 AM
WOW and ICK

first one, man that sky is absolutely beautiful....... keep it...... don't EVER change it.........

second is TERRIBLE get rid of it and vever show it again........... lol

dobermunk
06-21-2002, 08:56 AM
I prefer the first sky, though it could be seen incorrectly; as if the planet is a comet moving through space. Perhaps the clouds don't need to wrap as much as they do there.

I would tone down the moon, as well. It is too prominent at the moment - though nice for composition. I'd just fade it to avoid it battling for attention - the perfect accent...

David

azazel
06-21-2002, 08:58 AM
On the first pic, sky is taken from photo, second one uses sky generated in max ( it's hard to get ANY clouds in max)...

Kaos
06-21-2002, 02:21 PM
you know whats wrong with the pic now??

the proportions of the PICTURE are wrong... its too wide, i think a slimmer picture size would be better..... keep the height, just shorten the width.........

could do a LOT for it..........

gwelty
06-22-2002, 11:39 AM
the first one..... it's clean and simple and makes your eye focus on your subject matter. By the way excellent model. The second is to busy... makes your eyes dart all around and never settle to one place or thing. IMHO

Beautiful work.

Looks great but i think either the tree should be smaller or the planet be bigger.

this is really awesome!
!love! it! :D (you can never have too many exclamation marks)

i don't know if peeps already asked you this, but, what kind of hardware and software do you use? polygons getting on your nerves yet? ;)

take care, and give us MORE UPDATES!

azazel
06-24-2002, 08:30 AM
Kaos: thanks, that helped:)
three: I use max 4.29, with Vray, scene is more than 3000000 faces, but it's almost all particles, so I see them only on rendering, not the viewports. System is W2k, Athlon processor, and old Matrox graphics card (G400). It takes 1,5 h to render in full res for the daytime, and the same for the night side (3h total).
And little update, almost finished, but not yet:

Iguiniz.X.

He I see you made the sky rotate around the earth and tree,
try to make them only rotate arround the earth. ( take the center of the earth as pivot point/rotation point for the clouds and maybe stars) I think it will make the composition better.
now it gives me a weard feelinglike it is in space not in a atmospere.

azazel
06-24-2002, 09:15 AM
Iguiniz.X. : I kinda like this space-and-atmosphere look...

ZrO-1
06-24-2002, 06:13 PM
I LOVE the lighting and background in that last pic. I still think the planet needs to be a bit bigger. The tree looks to have more weight than the planet right now.

I think the 'night' side of the image could be a bit darker but besides that...... this is some serious shiot :)

Nice jobby job

no big changes since previous one, mainly details.
Image is over 100Kb, so it may take a while before you see it :annoyed: :

A great image. I still think the background sky could be tweaked a bit (seems the tree planet is sandwiched between two skies turned at 90 degrees) but a great image.
