View Full Version : SubD UV problem
Stahlberg 06-01-2002, 06:44 AM I got this high-res head, and the UV's are very good. It's a hierarchical SubD head, with edits up to level 3.
Now I want to attach its neck to a body, but any change I do to the head - deleting history even, or going into Polygonal mode and back to Standard - results in the UV's exploding into such a mess the screen is just a solid white in the middle from all the criss-crossing lines. Totally unusable in other words. But I'd prefer not to have to redo the UV's, it will mean redoing 5 texture maps, is there a way around this?

do you create your head in subd on the beginning or you model in polygon and after convert it on subd

ok ll try it and it make me the same thing l think the way to do it is convert your subd in poly and attach it to your body and after convert it in subd when all is finish

I started this head as a polygonal model, the reason why I didn't attach it to the body from the start: at the time (couple years ago) I felt the whole character worked better that way. Now I'm trying a new approach.
I can attach the head fairly easily, by going back temporarily to Polygonal mode, then back to 'Standard', it keeps all the hierarchical edits. The problem is the UV mapping goes kablooey, even if I go into Polygonal without doing anything else. Oh well, I'll just redo the mapping again, it isn't as if I hadn't already done it a million times... :)

just convert your model into polygon and attach it that works weel for me and after put it in subd but don go into polygon mode you have to convert it in polygon this is the way if you dont wat to do your uv again and l know this is pain in the ass
and a little trick for good uv duplicate your model and try averages vertices on it and after do your uv and transfer it to your model that works very well

Thanks!
(I can't convert to polys though, that would either collapse all my edits to one level, or loose some detail, depending how I did it, I want to keep the SubD just like it is. I'll just redo the UV mapping, and all the texture maps.) :)
