View Full Version : Character: Smurf
3D Swede 10-13-2003, 04:34 PM Hello.
I am modeling a smurf for fun and was wondering if there's any smurf-experts out there? Still modeling, hence the unwelded center and neck. No textures yet, only reflections. Any obvious mistakes? C&C are welcome.
Hopefully I find time to rig and animate this little guy as well.

Hey! Nice!
But don't let the HDRI do all the work for you.
The eyes look dead, and since the model is so simple, any emotion you want to instill in the character will come mainly from the eyes. Maybe make the pupils a bit larger to bring out some emotion.
Perhaps add creases around the mouth corners, too.
Looks nice though - certainly would look interesting in an animation!
Keep it up.

It has been a while since I've looked at a smurf, but I think the bottom half of his torso looks too small.. Also the crease between his chest and where is pants begins looks like it needs something, I'm not sure what.
Otherwise, great ceramic smurf!

It looks to be very clean (polygon wise) and really does resemble a smurf. I'm guessing u intended to make it look like shiny plastic or ceramic becasue u used reflections and if so you did a good job on that too.

I like it. Its funny, he looks like a lawn gnome, lol. Seriously, though, I think he has too much reflection (unless you were going for that: then it looks perfect)

Thankyou all for your replies!
I will look into the crease-problem and the proportions. The reflections is not final (as you said, to ceramic-looking right now) and my goal is some kind of plastic, shiny, but not as shiny as it is right now. Some bump, diffuse and reflection-maps are going to be added as well.
I'm going to try and work some more on him and post some updates later today.
Cheers/

Hi again!
I have been a little busy (hence the ultra-late update) but finally managed to finish some new stuff of the Smurf-character. These are some rough animation-tests to primary test the rig and also for animation practice. Oh, and btw, I am just doing this as pure fan-art, nothing else.
Next up will be facial-controls and an environment.. but it will probably take a while since I've some other stuff to do first.

DivX needed to watch.
