Hello to all,

here are some fresh news about new update and features of BonesPro organic skinning plugin for Autodesk 3dsmax.

Press Release: BonesPro 4.50 Release - skin paint and smooth tools
www.bonespro.com (http://www.bonespro.com)

Following the numerous improvements and add-ons from the last releases, the 3d-io development team is proud to release a major update of BonesPro, the sophisticated skinning tool for Autodesk 3dsMax. BonesPro version 4.5 adds the production-proven fast and easy skin painting similar to ZBrush: artists can now paint weight adjustments in real-time and even smooth them out with the brush to achieve exact and elastic skin look & feel, just like using ZBrush / Mudbox.

Skin Painting and Skin Smoothing

BonesPro 4.5 introduces paint brushes for efficient skin weight painting. In addition to standard brush functions 3ds Max users are familiar with, BonesPro 4.5 brings Skin Smooth Brush, which smooths the skin, creating perfect folds, blending and equal surfaces with just using few mouse moves.

Performance Increase & History

Many core functions were improved in their calculation speed, making BonesPro faster than ever before. To make working with BonesPro more intuitive for artists the default 3ds Max undo system is now supported in addition to the original undo options from earlier versions.

Complete MAXScript interface overhaul

BonesPro 4.5 features a completely overhauled MAXScript interface, making the integration into a company production pipeline and the automated control of the skinning process easier to implement than before. Backwards compatibility for the old interface is included for already existing scripts.

List of changes and new features of BonesPro 4.50

A new paint tool with smoothing mode allows artists to make quick local weight adjustments
Completely new MAXScript interface for easier and more extensive third party access.
3ds Max default conform undo system added to the existing legacy workflow.
MetaBones now have an optional real-time mode similar to ParaBones.
Significant performance increases for the most often used actions in BonesPro.
BonesPro now works natively with object types and no longer converts them internally. This improves performance with large modifier stacks and interoperability with other modifiers.
Bone groups can now easily be turned into selection sets through a new option in the Bones rollout.
Bones with non-orthogonal local coordinate systems can now be used like normal bones without causing distortions.
Various minor fixes.

The BonesPro plug-in and associated training materials are available at http://www.bonespro.com

Are you selling us the brush tool which comes with the Skin Modifier in 3D Studio MAX for many years as a novelty in this release?

we are just adding the missing components that existing BonesPro users wished to have in the new release. BonesPro is in many aspects superior to standard Max Skin, and after many requests we converted some of the tools from Skin into BonesPro workflow.

Additionaly to it, how can you smooth with standard Max Skin the weight values (as explained in the videos)? This features are actually what we are "selling" :)

thanks
best regards

You obviously missed the part about being able to use brushes the work directly on the animated/deformed mesh itself to aid in the skinning process......

awesome, i tried the 4.0 and even tho it was cool, the lack of painting tools made me not wanna use it, but now we are speaking!
really nice tool, I hope the painting tools work better than the ones in skin modifier :)

edit: any chance to see dual quaternion deformation in bones pro? maya and xsi are already using it... :)

You just have to see the videos, it's fantastic!

I'm not discussing how powerful / useful BonesPro is. But after seeing the videos, I haven't seen any difference at all with the painting tool from MAX. Interactive painting (smoothing too) through the frames on animated mesh, of course...

I think it's great you add this missing component to BonesPro by users demand, but I've just been shocked by the way you used this to promote the new release.

Congratulations for this software anyway. It looks fantastic.

yes but i do think the painting tools in max are far from perfect and they could be improved a lot ( i much rather the painting tools in maya...) so if they work better in bones pro, then that's awesome :) also, apparently ( haven't tried yet ) bones pro performs much faster than the skin modifier?

Yes, like many other tools, Max is not what I would call excellent about efficiency using graphics acelleration hardware, so we would like BonesPro to be faster and smoother while painting weights. Can any BP user confirm this?

I Haven't tried the demo yet, but for me the key different is automatic overlap avoiding plus using metabones. Metabones look much better than manual points adjustment. Yet adjusting weights looks more reasonable.

Hi Shin,
well, i don't want to sound advocative, but don't you think it is now time for you to get a demo and give it a try :)?

thanks

I've tried the Demo of 4.2 version and the speed was 250% in some cases compared to Max native Skin. So, yeah, it is faster. Haven't tested the 4.5 yet but will try to this weekend. Should be buying it soon enough.

I'm not a big fan of painting weights, way too clunky for my liking. Not just in max, any other software. But I see how it can be useful to people. I just haven't come to a scenario where it helped get to a result I'm looking for.

BonesPro is by far the best skin weighting solution available for 3ds Max.
Thanks 3d-io for making it even better.
