two.oh 10-13-2003, 04:25 AM hi, this is my current UV state for my arm/hand. i put a cylindrical map around the arm/hand and then spread it out for texturing. problem is, im confused as to how to approach the hand. this is my UV setup:

i saw this tutorial:
http://artur.bluemoon.ee/cg/?dir=tutorials%2Fhand_texturing
but that only deals with the palm side and not the backside. can anyone advise how i should lay out my uv's?

In his case, it looks like he would be using two planar maps. On for the top, and one on the bottom. It isn't terribly in depth on the tutorial, too bad. You just need to look at a couple more tutorials about UV cut and paste techniques.
Check out the tutorial sections here, there are much better ones, than the one you have see so far.

cutting and pasting won't bother me......its just that i havent seen any tutorials on texturing the arm and hand together.....i've only seen the separate methods for eithe rht earm or hand.....
maybe i havent looked hard enough but ive been through my entire database of tutorials.........
i already managed to texture the head.....
so what would you suggest, should i just texture the hands and arm separately and try to match the meeting faces?

If you go into their texturing page, check out soem of the UV layout techniques that are there. There's even a few vids you could download. That's where I learned.

Hej!
What I did for my Hand UV is assign cylindrical mapping for the arm and all the fingers. Use planar for the palm. This way you get different shells you can easily move around in Texture editor. Now it's just a matter of scaling, moving UV points, sewing, rotating...
