View Full Version : character: old asian male head
minchol 10-13-2003, 04:20 AM Hi all,
I've been working on a facial expression test for my demo reel, and I just finished making blend shape target faces.
Before making lipsync ani, I would welcome any crucial comments on my model-topology, proportion etc.

That's very good. You've nailed the eyes and typical asian features. The only thing that really bothers me is the sharp angle of the lower check hang. It's almost concave, and at this age I would expect it to be a little more saggy. Also where it meets the nose I would like to see a little smoother transition, and less of a black pit.
You didn't say what program or methodology you used, but the topology looks awfully dense. Does it really use that many polys?

Thanks for your comments.
I agree that the lower check and the nose bit needs to be worked on. I'll post fixed imgs as soon as I can. This is my second human face modeling, and i've learn a lot from this proj. I used subD in my previous face modeling. In this proj I tried to use only poly modeling method for comparing with former method... The wireframe that I posted is poly smooth model, which I'll use for final rendering. Software is Maya 5.

hey there.
I too am about to embark on such endeavors and think it's looking pretty good. I'm about do some blendshapes in Maya so have no real experience with them so have nothing to add technically, except maybe that when animating to set the keys a couple of frames ahead of hearing the sounds to get that snappy realistic look. But with that said your animation looks really good. I'm no pro. Out of intersest did he say sheep? if so LOL, if not I must be drunk

Looks very good. The basic facial features look pretty much correct. One thing I would consider doing is extending those earlobes a bit, to enhance the oldness, and also the teeth look to be a bit too white. some dark stains in the in between areas would be good, and you might consider varying the color a bit. maybe one tooth could be particularly yellowish, or another a bit brown, suggesting decay. All in all, a fine head.
empty thought
