Hi Guys. I really need your help.
This must be the easiest thing module in maya but I just can't figure it out, so i'm sorry if I offend you with my ignorance:shrug:

I need to model something kind of like this (I know this image is awful but it only took me 10 seconds to do)
http://pwp.netcabo.pt/0654125001/model.jpg

that has smooth sides but is planar in all the smaller sides (ex. top and bottom).

Thanks.

Hi..welcome..:)

Planar doesnt work with 3D curves that containts xyz values, it works only for flattened surfaces, you should use loft rather than planar to create a surface on your sinusoidal curves (top and bottom)

Anyway why dont you use extrude ?

Could you please post it step by step so I can marvel with my stupidity? It's that there's something missing, I can create the top and bottom parts but not the rest.

? :surprised

Ok there is 2 ways :
using loft
1. First create a closed curves
2. Copy (ctrl-d) the curves and move it
3. select all curves then surfaces > loft (this would create top, bottom and side surfaces)
4. select front isoparm then then surfaces > planar
5. select back isoparm then then surfaces > planar
4 and 5 would create front and back planar surfaces

using extrude
1. select your spline
2. surfaces > extrude
3. select front isoparm then then surfaces > planar
4. select back isoparm then then surfaces > planar
3 and 4 would create front and back planar surfaces

I suggest you to read provided Maya documentation about isoparm and surfacing :)

Thank you very much for taking your time to explain this rookie such a basic thing!:thumbsup:
