View Full Version : Creature : Deep-Sea Fish : HELP me choose!
William b. Hand 10-12-2003, 08:40 AM This is a deep-sea fish that I made up. It's Photoshop 7.
WHAT I WANT FEEDBACK ON:
Better in Amber, Dark Blue, or Lighter Blue?
Better with or without chin-lure?
Any and all comments/crits welcome. :)

The 3rd one stands out to me the best. Great work.

Mmmh... I prefer the dark blue, second picture. And with the chin lure thing. The glowing parts pop out more with the blue. About the light-dark version, you never know the infinite brightness/gamma settings there are out there. If the viewer is browsing in daylight near a window or in a dark pit room with the monitor as the only night, that changes the perception of colors a lot.
Good work with the fishy, lovely executed. The plancton is a great touch.

Excellent work buddy.
If i had to pick one of them, i'd say the first one. I was initially partial to the blue colored ones, but I think the green gives it a more fleshy organic kinda feel to it. Just more juicy to look at, personally. As for the lure, in terms of composition, it works much better with it.
I hope i was some help... rock on

stuf123 - Thanks for the vote!
Pancreas - Thanks! Yeah, I'm feeling the same way about the blue... and what you said about the variety of monitor experiences out there.... Holy moly - It never really occurred to me how very different people might be experiencing the same image, and how futile asking for preferences of contrast, darkness, and subtleties of colour might truly be.
Of course, that said... Here're some more.
Jonas8200 - Thank you! You're right about the "fleshiness" of the first one, of course. That's closest to the original colour I was working in, actually. Speaking of colour... It should be appearing as a brown - not a green. I've tried several different settings on my monitor, and they all register as a caramel colour. :)
Hmm... another vote for the lure, huh?
Okay, with this new batch of pics - all sans lure - what do you think?
The blue I'm not taking as seriously, I guess, although I like it.
Mostly now, I'm looking at the third one down and comparing it with it's lure-bearing equal (middle image on previous img file), above.
Jesus, is this a "foothold" situation of obsessive compulsive disorder?
...
Okay, I'll make a decision before I go to bed and that'll be that.

I really like that last one. The blues make it seem more menacing and spooky. The eye would look better with the same blue glow that is on it's fins.
The chin lure doesn't make much sense to me because of the position of his mouth. It's mouth would have to open the opposite direction for a chin lure to work. A lure on the top would make more sense.
Really nice fish though.

I think you need to stop fussing over it and go with your origonal inspiration. Whatever your first thoguht was, was probobly the right one.

Kirt - Thanks for your reply! I still may alter that lure...
Bugmeyer - Yeah, you're right. I'll stop being a baby and just trust myself to finish the image. Everybody must be as sick of this nitpicking as I am. I'll try to just relax and finish it up smoothly... Thanks!

Hey Mr. Hand, here's my too sense.
I lkie the 2nd image on your 2nd post.
Collor in the deep ocean really isn't visible ( if you're choosing to show the creature in it's native enviroment ), so colors would shift to the higher end of the spectrum IE: blues and violets, and greens for bio-luminesent lights.
Also Kirt's right about the lure, it should grow out of the snout.
Great image!
