pretty hard exercice ...specially to skin it over bones ....

Check this up ... I know everybody here are comming from the cgchannel main page, but anyway ... this hand is beautifuly animated ...
Michael Mellor have done a great job ....
It let me think about the Adams Familly 's Thing so much :)

the basics of that modelling are just great. now you have to work on some additional details like nails and some characteristic things for the character.

Here is the question Im asking to myself since yesterday, when I saw Michael Mellor 's hand animation

What kind of IK structure must be set up For making a Hand walking by herself ?

...may be out of this topic but anyway, if you have an "idée" ...


hottemp : I just don't want to go further in the modeling ... I prefer a slightly stylized hand than a complex, high detailed and useless one :)

givetommoney : From who have you cut this hand off ? :)

Ringing a severed hand for animation should be very easy. Think of it as a 5 legged spider. build independant Ik chains for each finger and then link the top bone to a helper or dummy object in the palm of the hand. to deal with the rist you could use 2 or 3 bones to deform the mesh as if your spider has a tail.

i never tried to do a hand. really difficult.

Vertex : ...yeah that the way Ive think of it,
I was wondering if there was a way to use bones or dummys differently...
I mean ..look at a human leg for ex ... you can Ik a human leg with 1 Ik structure, from the hip to the tiptoe, but in this case the leg will not act as it should, you have to add a few dummys, a few ikchains to make it usefull and animatable...

Here is a nice one, the palm is a bit to small compared to the fingers...but youve done some nails ! :p

Heres my contribution. Still very much works in progress...have a lot of tweaking ahead of me. My first real attempt at modeling realistic type hands. About 2 hours so far...
