Sorry for being off topic but my curiousity got the best of me and I wanted to know if the users of my fav app have other things in common.

When it comes to music I have no special preference. I listen to anything that sounds good and evokes some feelings whether or not I understand the language.

After days of consideration, I came up with the list of my ten favourite musicians and ten favourite music of all time. This was a tough decision but I came up with a list anyway

Here goes:(with no order of preference)

My top ten musicians

1. TLC
2. Ludwig Van Beethoven
3. Phil Collins
4. Tupac Shakur
5. linkin Park
6. Franz Schubert
7. R. Kelly
8. Bob Marley
9. Melaine C
10. Youssou N'Dour

My top ten music

1. Waterfall (TLC)- Reminds you of the maxim ' a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush'
2. Canon In D Major (Johann Pachelbel)- Makes you forget about your worries for the moment.
3. In The End (Linkin Park)- Impressive. A perfect Blend of two worlds.
4. Gangta's Paradise (Coolio)- Touching lyrics and nice rhythm.
5. See You when You Get There (Coolio)- The lyrics were touching and he used a sample of J. Pachelbel’s 'Cannon In D major'
6. Never Be The Same (Melaine C featuring left Eye)- A music that makes a lot of sense.
7. Awa Awa (Wes) I don't know what the heck he is talking about but I love the music
8. Cry Me A River (Justin Timberlake)- Beautiful, reminds me of errr...something.
9. No Woman No Cry (Bob Marley)- Can't get enough of it
10. Bring Me To Life (Evanescense)- Can't help but nod my head anytime it is playing.

There are numerous Europian, African and Asian musicians that could have made the list but unfortunately I didn’t know the names of their music (happens quite often)

I listen to so much different music that it's difficult to really say what I listen to on average.

Peter Gabriel

However, in terms of genres, I generally end to listen mostly to classical, opera, old jazz and world music while working.

Peter Gabriel

While relaxing I listen to anything from 80's pop and rock, trip hop, metal, ethnic, reggae and lots of other stuff.

Peter Gabriel

Right now I am listening to Mesopotamix - it's a disc of remixed and grooved up Iraqi music. Cool stuff. I love crossover world stuff.

Peter Gabriel

The only stuff that I don't listen to AT ALL is rap and r&b. Oh and nu metal. I don't like stuff that is overly aggressive.

If you want to hear something awesome, get a copy of Grandaddy's "the Sophtware Slump". I've listened to it every day for about the past 2 weeks.

other stuff:

Chevelle(Point #1)
The Flaming Lips(Yoshimi battles the pink Robots)
The Smashing Pumpkins(Gish) all time favorite
The Darkness(Permission to Land)

and if you can find it(very rare), "the Greatest Bootlegs in the World". It's mashup remixes of rap and rock together. Can't explain how good C. Aguilerra sounds singing Genie in a Bottle over a Strokes song.

All Techno.... all the time.
The more minimal and repetative the better.... usually long 1 to 3 hour sets of techno all mixed. I find that my thought flows best to it.....

lots of classical especially cello by yo-yo ma, and lots of speed/thrash metal mainly megadeth, sepultura, testament, anthrax... used to listen to metallica but bad stuff happened every time, so i figured it was a sign from above so i quit. funny thing, there's a shakira cd in the dvd player right now though...

Leigh's right, RATM is not metal.

Girls who like metal are cool
My wife loves metal but cant stand my death/grind. (She is a hugh Dio fan.) So we listen to stoner rock and Iron Maiden. I like Kyuss, Sleep, Fu Manchu, Electric Wizard, Warhorse a lot, but blistering grind and death are the most exhilerating. Good in the car, and on headphones at the gym ;)

80s Bay Area thrash heads, "Ghoul - Maniaxe" is awesome fun thrash metal in that style on razorback records - www.razorbackrecords.com
they have mp3s too I think

I was a HUGE metalhead when I was younger - ESPECIALLY Maiden :buttrock:
I still love Maiden - although their new album is a bit crap. But Piece of Mind, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Number of the Beast and Powerslave - now that is good shit. Dickinsons solo stuff rocks too :D

I also listen to Samael and Therion quite a lot too. Nothing like a good headbang now and then.

Some of the heavier groove stuff that isn't quite metal, like White Zombie/Rob Zombie is also awesome

The last band I played in was a metal band, very influenced by Skyclad (ie strong medieval sound). Aaaah those were the days... I still had really long hair, and wore metal spikes and Maiden t-shirts and would go on stage wielding my Fender P-bass like an axe, headbanging until my neck felt like it was going to fall off while the wall of extreme sound blasted out of the stacks behind us. Good times :D

You know we shouldn't listen to music while working 'cause our brain isn't smart enought to do two things at once... But anyway, I do listen to:

The Rolling Stones
The Beatles
Van Morrison <<<<<<<<< :applause:
Counting Crows <<<<<<<<<<<<They are the best!

Those are the usuals, but I also listen a lot of classic jazz and bebop, some swing and a lot of other classical rock groups.

Oh, and some spanish musci like: Joaquin Sabina, Los Rodriguez, Joan Manuel Serrat, Silvio... which I assume you've never heard about.

By the way, I only have 26, but I guess I was born in the wrong time, 'cause I don't really like most of the music they play nowdays.

Odrakir.

- Wyclef Jean
- OUTKAST (These guys kick ASS! If you havent heard their new song "Hey Ya" your missing out!)
- 80's Pop & Rock

- Queen (Freddy Mercury was possibly the best singer ever)
- Long Beach Dub All Stars
- The Beatles
- B-52's

The above bands probably go into my favorite list. Alot of them up there are kinda happy/fun stuff...you know that "warm fuzzy" that you get. Thats the stuff I like listening to. When I was younger, twenty years ago, I heard simultaneously three bands and singers on the radio :
- Chuck Berry - Memphis Tennessee,
- Sex Pistols - Anarchy in the UK,
- Joy Division - We are the young men.

I flashed instantaneously for all three despite their so obvious difference in style, music and message. My destiny was ecclectism... If I had to make a list of the thing I can hear continuously, I would say :

- Tom Waits,
- Mudy Waters,
- Steevy Ray Vaughn,
- The Cure,
- Dead Can Dance,
- Paco de Lucia and all the other Flamenco guitarists,
- Tango music as a whole - the sexiest music on Earth -,
- Django Reinhardt,
- Corsican traditional songs,
- The 2nd concerto for violin - Tchaikovsky,
- Bill Withers, James Brown... - I love afro-american music (soul, funk...)
- Les Béruriers Noirs
- Gogol Ier et la Horde...

I stop the list here :hmm:

All time top 3:

Richard Wagner
Pink Floyd
The Prodigy

Favourite Genres:
Electronic music (especially hardtrance, big beat)
Classical and opera

I generally lissten to anything that has that special something, maybe a nice baseline, a catchy melody, intricate rythm whatever. I don't care whether it's commercial or not, from a certain genre or not, as long as it's got IT.

I love all sorts to be honest but have a heavy lean shall we say:) Idlewild is quiet Folky,Irish Rock but cool for instance, love alot of celtic stuff as well.
Muse well a mate gave me an album as his girl friend was worried about what he was lisening to :applause: so he gave it to me! quiet a bit of depth to the "Origin of Symmetry" album but the latest release seem to have gone a little more commercial in my opinion.

Hell Yeah!

Down is Killer. Check Superjoint Ritual, Phils other band. Very heavy and more thrash. He is pretty much done with Pantera and Down now. Bummer.

The new Static-X kicks Ass. Just got it and am quite pleased since their last (second) album was not that good. This new one is as good, if not better than their first.

The tracks off the New Mushroomhead seem killer. Particularly the one off of Freddy vs Jason Soundtrack, which is a killer album.

What I am looking most forward to is DevilDriver. This is Dez from Coal Chambers new band. Like Chamber, but harder!

Pantera was starting to get a bit iffy with there newer albums anyways. I think Phil needs to lay off the drinking a bit...old Pantera and the first Down album are amazing. I might give his new band a shot...always been an Anselmo fan. The Mushroomhead album is one of the best (and most original) metal albums I've heard in a looong time...definitely recommend it highly. :buttrock: I have Coal Chamber...a bit too Korny ;) for me. Maybe this harder version will be better.

Gents, you haven't experienced Nickleback until you attend one of their shows (albeit rare) in a 200 seat pub in rural Alberta. Namely Hanna, AB- their hometown. About a 2 hour drive from where I live. Giddy-up!

When I'm working, I never listen to music, too distracting. I prefer to sit and enjoy music.

As to favourites.. in a reasonable order
Alan Parsons Project
Def Leppard
Enya,
Mike Oldfield
Kiss,
Magnum,
Led Zeppelin
Thunder
Thin Lizzy
Gary Moore
Clannad
Bon Jovi
Nickleback
..amongst others

Edit: Queen - my god, I can't believe I forgot to add Queen in there! Brian May was one of the influences in me wanting to pick up a guitar! Shame on me! :banghead:
Oh and Native American chants & such, both the 'proper' stuff and the modified stuff such as "sacred spirit".

Kind of off-topic but related to music nonetheless...

I'm an "80's" guy at heart. The best and most exciting decade of music imo. Anyway, one of the bands from the 'new wave era' that I still enjoy is Tears For Fears. This morning the radio alarm went off and the headline news had just started at it's normal time. The announcer was stating "Curtis Smith, band member of pop group Tears For Fears..." <click!> my wife hit the snooze button at that very moment. I thought to myself that was unusual for the newscast to start off with something from entertainment. Normally it's depressing world or local events. I'm thinking something bad has happened like Curtis died or something. I can't seem to find anything about this story and now am at work where I don't have access to the radio.

Anyone heard anything? I've also been anxiously waiting TFF's new album which, maybe ironically, is entitled "Everybody Love's a Happy Ending". The CD has been long delayed so I'm wondering what's up with TFF.
