Hello ppl :wavey:

I want to take a 3d scene I've done with 3dsmax and export it to an independent execute file (*.exe). In a matter of fact I kinda want to make a program that shows the model, gives me the ability to navigate in it (like in VRML, but also with a fast LOD etc.), gives me the choice of selecting cameras... maybe even develop more features around it... Let say several types of cameras (flying, walking, rotating the model, rotating the target of the camera etc.)

Can you please recommand me?

I have one possible solution:

Macromedia Director 8.5 and upwards can do realtime 3d, multiple cameras, animation (object, camera, bones), uvw support, changeable materials, shaders(eg wireframe, point, flatshader), lights and some other features such as reflection maps... plus you can make nice 2d interface around it. All this is can be output to either a shockwave movie or of course a standalone *.exe

You export your model (can include materials, animation, bones during export) to *.w3d format (special plugin is available for 3dsmax) then import that into director.

Expect to have to learn how to use some scripting though, you can get default rotations and stuff like that but you'll need scripting for multiple cameras and other dynamic stuff.

If you want to get help with Director here at CGTalk we don't have a forum for it, but I would be happy to help you within the Flash forum.

thanks Ian, but I've tried that and had several problems:

1. I want it to be easy for every new model (same interface and options, but another 3D scene).
2. I found the rotating script buggy (rolling the camera - after a while u find yourself upside-down)
3. I found the input scripts buggy too - buttoms didn't work sometimes, and did in other times etc.

Even though i've tried that in director 8.5 maybe it feels better in version mx... or is it mx 2004 now?

is the only problem with vrml lhe lod speed?or that ppl need browser plug ins?with the power of machines today vrml content can be made pretty darn slick. have you tried the blaxxun export for max?sory bout waving the vrml flag, its just format loyalty. i know, im old.

barackmag , I'll check it, 10x!

Tims0l , a friend of mine at work gave them tons of details and whatever they asked and we were promised to get a demo via mail... didn't get it yet... and i think he should check this again - why do i have to nag him about that?? Anyway, I'm dieing of seeing the demo, it looks so great in the magazines...

buckky , I've tried VRML plugins - the best were Cosmo and Cortona, but they weren't good enough - some textures bags, not very well dilling with a bit heavy models... bad lighting (comparing to what I can see with 3dsmax)... In a matter of fact they are so similiar to each other - same exact functions in the same places - just another skin... dunno, i want something better.
