Hello everyone
I have a Dell 8250 with a 2.4ghz/512mb RAM setup. It came with a Ati Radeon 9700 ti Graphics card and a crappy dell e772 17" moniter. Not long ago I swapped out the monitor for a Sony GDM 5410 21" flatscreen monitor. Not knowing much about computers, I just plugged it in and away I went....no driver installation. I tried to open Maya 4.5 and it crashed my computer quite badly. the error message that came up after restarting cited my Radeon card as the problem. Thinking Maya somehow got corrupted by that stupid worm that was goin around I uninstalled 4.5 and installed 5.0 with the 5.0.1 patch. I had the same problem occur again. I looked around and discovered the driver for my monitor online....installed it....but still Maya crashes. Same error reported.
I just installed Directx 9.0b and am still havin the same issue. Keep in mind that no other software gives me this instability...After efects, Photoshop, shake, commotion, they all run fine. Im out of ideas and any would be welcome
Oh yeah by the way Im running XP
thanx

i'd hate to say i dont know what the problem could be, but that sux to hear about this.

did you try reinstalling the ati drivers, and maybe the old monitor drivers are conflicting with the new, make sure everything from the old monitor is empty, and maybe search for manuals that might be useful from sony on the net, also check faq's.

if you have windows xp, try doing a system restore to before you installed the new monitor.

that's about all i can think of right now. post another message if you have questions

Hello again...
So I figured something out but still need help. Maya only crashes when I try to Maximize the screen. When It opens it only uses about 3/4 of my monitor. Whether I maximze by hitting the button or click/drag it to full screen it crashes....Does this narrow down any possibilities as to what I should do?....It must be in some preference somewhere.

I hate this discussion but i think you are using a cracked(warez) Maya. Try installing my Personal Learning Edition and re-install your all drivers. I would prefer formatting and re-install everything. !

For that, there is the Personal Learning Edition. I suggest you read the CGTalk rules before continuing posting - threads like this usually lead to deletion, since they violate the rules concerning piracy.
