View Full Version : Using Maya FBIK Rig and a Cntrl Rig

So I was wondering if anyone has done this before and how one would go about doing it.

Basically right now I have 3 main rigs.

One is the cntrl rig I created (which has ik/fk set up on it)

The second is the motion capture rig or FBIK rig (from maya to use in motion builder)

The third is the final skinned rig (with muscles etc.).

Now all of these rigs have matching orientations etc so there should be no problem there.

What I'd like to be able to do is to have the FBIK rig have motion capture data on it and have the cntrl rig match to the FBIK rig then have the skin follow that.

So it'd be set up:

FBIK > CNTRL > SKIN

And ideally I would like the animator to have the option to choose which body parts to match (i.e. they can choose to match the spine and arms but not legs to FBIK rig or vice versa).

The way I've been contemplating this is that it would be similar to IK/FK matching. I would have to create "dummy" objects on the FBIK rig and have the Cntrl rig match to those?

Any tips on how to proceed with this would be greatly appreciated!
