View Full Version : Does anyone know much about caustics?
Annuostivix 10-10-2003, 05:15 AM Well, I'm not very good with lighting. I looked around a bit in this particular forum before I decided to ask about caustics, so I hope I'm not asking about something I could just read somewhere else. I am able to create them using a geometry light, but not otherwise. I've consulted the manual of course, and I've got some basics down. But through exploration I'm confused because I dont get expected results. I'm using Brazil... And I am of course using 3ds max. I'm using 4.2 but I dont think that matters. Hopefully you can help! Thanks a bunch.

So have you got any caustics to work at all? You have to use a geometry light (as far as I know?!). That's what I do.
Post an example image.

yeah, geomtry light is what I use too. But it says you can use other lights too? hmmm... I'm just looking to be able to control the way the caustics look. I'll post soon, I'm actually rendering right now and testing different stuff.

hmm, what slow render times... :) If I decide to get a 3.0 ghz with 1024 ram and a 64 meg video card, instead of my 1.7, 512, 32 meg card set up, is it possible that I would render nearly twice as fast..? hehe... I dont know. I can afford a new computer right now, but I'm trying so hard to save up for some audio software. It's always hard to decide between 3d and audio.
