Well, for the sole reason that fights that take places at night in fields simply awe the hell out of me (like from WW2 (Band of Brothers rocked my socks)), I decided to start this little animation. I love how gunfire and bombs light up the sky and its surroundings... Well anyway, here is the animation. Couple of things I know are wrong, like the odd explosion flames the last explosion causes (result of a poor video post edit (will be fixed))... Let me know what you think. I intend for this shot to do more and last longer, but here is one of the first drafts. Has sound too...

PS. Sorry about all the (('s and )))'s... maybe next time i'll use brackers [] :)

Hey, Cryptite. How's the whole project goin? I'm kinda pre-occupied with school, but if you guys are still needing some help, I'm here.

I couldn't watch the animation, but I'm sure it's great.... I need to get DivX back...

Here's an update. Things i've fixed:
The ground is now muddy. It seemed odd to have a path of cobblestones in the middle of a field. So its now muddy.
Added some more ground fire.
Added a second mortar explosion
There is some flak at the end.
I have a question and I'm wondering what you all think. By accident, I had the first 3 flak explosions light up the sky (which I used a sphere for) and the 4th doesn't. This occurs because of the location of the flak explosion lights relative to the edge of the sphere. Anyway. Do you like/think the flak should light up the sky like it does the first 3 times or not like it does the 4th. Other than that, shoot your other comments at me. Can't wait to see what you guys think.

Nice to see you here again Cryptite,
I see you scaled down a bit (instead of an earth exploding you made some earth exploding :) )
Something seems to be not quite right with the flying dirt though, perhaps it is the speed, or the lack of chaos, it looks more like a fountain instead of an explosion (too much upward direction)
I like the leaves in the wind a lot! but beware of the clouds, they move a bit too fast i think.

Keep it comming, have some helmet flying around after an explosion, would be nice...*grin*

I actually started to work on this shot again out of want to win a CG competition elsewhere. I think the challenge has died thus far but I think I might just start work on this one again. Here's a screenshot of the latest work. This has become more Star Wars related rather than WW2 now due to that Fanfilm that I'm making (see sig).

Wow, i'm surprised there was a reply; haven't updated this thread in awhile. The tracers were very simple. I just placed several super particle sprays all over the place and had the emit instanced 'bullets' at high speeds mapped with a white material on top of which i applied a glow from video post... Hope that answered your question...
