Hello!
I'm new to 3D and having some troubles.

I need to create a simple 3D (cartoonish) dog but I don't know where to start. I've tried looking for examples on the net but can't seem to find any models I can reference.

I think I know how to create the model of the dog but I'm not sure whether to use nurbs, poly or subdiv. Any suggestions?

The main problem is rigging. I'm not sure what considerations I have to make- (modeling considerations to accomodate rigging issues which considers animation that will take place...). I simply put off the modeling process until I can understand what rigging issues are involved...

My dog stands on 4 legs and requires pretty vigourous animation. However, no close-up will be used, so I might be able to get away with minor imperfections.

If anyone could just point me to some references or examples, or enlighten me in any issues listed above, I will be extremely grateful.

Thanks! :)

Hello Kjam,

If you are new to modeling, start with polygons. Once you have a solid understanding of polys,
other methods (sub-ds) will make more sense.

Even though this is for a human, the modeling principles will work for a dog character (plus, it takes you through the texturing process)

Rigging is a process. It helps to define exactly what you want the character to do first, and then create the rig.

Check out this article: http://www.anticz.com/puppets.htm

As for actual rigging, try some of the tutorials at this site and use parts of them to create your own rig:

Good Luck with your project!
