OMG, the simplest scene in the world and it crashes on .
F9.

I wanted to do some testing tonight and this scene crashes on render. I can set to quickshade or wireframe but if I set it to Realistic, Lightwave crashes.

Could someone have a look?

That's really strange, it keeps crashing here to. I'm going to recreate the scene on my own system and see what happens.

It was the material for the cube, since it had transparency.

I did not have ray trace transparency ticked on. If left unticked, LW crashes.

Perhaps I'll send this into tech support.

oke, I messed around with your scene a bit more and go it to render. Under renderoptions just turn on raytracing for shadows, if you turn that option on, everything is fine. I just don't know why lightwave crashes when it's not turned on:surprised

just turn on raytracing for shadows

haha :applause:

I turned on transparency. So basically, a raytracing option has to be on .

thanks for such prompt attention Ayreon.

The reason is simple....once you know ;)

I see you are using "surface thickness" - for this to work you MUST have raytrace transparency on. It may not crash if shadows is on, but I think it actually needs the transparency.

It's a known thing, was a few threads about it on the Newtek board. It is also mentioned in the simple tutorial on it's use by Kevman3D from Oz in the 'Tips & tricks' "Skin Thickness Quick tips" thread.
