I dont mind mech arena taking a bit longer, I know that is one that would take up a lot of my time, and I want to makesure I have improved my skills so that I can give it my best!

Tribute is a challenge that I had in mind for a while.
The idea is do do a tribute to a classic fx sequence from the pre digital days.
More soon...

How to precisely define 'classic'. Suppose I want to do the alien spacecraft blasting up the white house in independence day. Would that be allowed?

That is one classic FX shot for sure...

Parting of the Red Sea from Cecil B DeMille's "The Ten Commandments".

The DeLorean travelling through time with flame trails from "Back to the Future"

Roberto,
Would it be ok to do a Godzilla tribute?

RobertoOrtiz
11-17-2010, 04:00 AM
We will have in the near future a Godzilla like challenge,
BUT....
Godzilla has classic FX sequences, so it is kosher.

I loved this movie when I was younger.
Looking back now, it was pretty cheesy but I've imagined what it could've been like with CG.

Im not entirely sure what you mean by doa tribute do you mean recreate the shot or what?

ovspianist
11-25-2010, 01:51 AM
yeah, I have the same question.

Do we do it in a fashion which mimics the old picture quality and style
or do we recreate it to bring the fx to a more realistic modern digital image level while maintaining the main idea in the original shot?

You can do it in any style you want, but it should at least to use as a foundation the classic FX sequence.

The CORE idea is to try to recreate classic vfx shots from the pre-digital age.
Some shots:
10 Commandments - Parting of the red sea:
Back to the future: The flying DeLorean
War of the Worlds: Martian War Machine Rising

Define classic like a good vfx scene? or does it have to be like famous in a famous older movie? say would human torch count?
