Wow! Nice atmosphere and great compositon Grant Man! Great entries everybody!

Thanks for the compliments guys. Keeps me going.
@Roberto Ortiz: The pic shows some kind of a barricade. Made of futuistic black material (like obsidian stone). I came up with the idea to position this wall in a icey mountain area. To make the color pop from the mainly white ice blocks.

About me: I'm trying to find a job in the gaming / entertainment industry. After working as a webdesigner and freelance artist for 9 years. The job doesn't thrill me anymore.
But to get into that business seems a lot harder than i thought. I see so much good people here and some of them are a lot better then me.

So i have to try harder and keep going.

Regards Oli

Cool work people! It's always, a pleasure to see such a high level of sketching.

Here's my attempt on the topic... Still feel rushed when making these sketches but my process is improving...

@ Auria - Thank you... That song would be quite fitting indeed. I was actually inspired to do this while tossing ideas around in my head (quite unsuccessfully I might add) when a Jameson Irish Whiskey commercial came on where he loses a barrel of whiskey during a storm at sea, and inspiration struck. :)

@ Olilotz - Appreciate the comment. I've noticed the high quality of your sketches this past week since I've been back on CGTalk. You've got skills. Best of luck breaking into the entertainment industry. I've only been freelancing for 2.5 years, but it's definitely not an easy thing to do so congrats on 9 successful years on your own.

@ Taron - Thanks! Love the baby seal, composition, and lighting on yours. Great portfolio as well.

an hour in photoshop. It has been 4-5 years since I've touched my wacom and PS, so I downloaded some texture brushes to play with and this is what I came up with. Everyone's DS's are so inspiring to look at!

Sigh, i dont know why nothing i do seems to have any form or contrast or depth, maybe i rely on opacity too much

Shadow, for some reason, I can't see your pic. Without seeing it, I would suggest a good rule to follow is to state your subject matter initially using no more than three values. At that point, if your image works on a basic graphic level than it will work when you begin to add nuances with various opacities as you refine it.

This method also increases speed because you have a blue print establish to work from. Starting out with a mega number of values has a tendency to muddle a piece if you're not careful.

Hope this helps.

Hey just wondering if you can see it now, i went to edit it and the image link code was completely gone, went to the origin website and when i came back the picture was there again. Weird.

Thanks for the advice, i actually tried that with this one, i started with 3 solid greens ...but then somewhere within that i got lost.
