I don't know if he used LW, but its almost irrelevant when you consider that he created and published a 25 min animated story and much of the work was done on a single PC, in this case a G4

He did use Lightwave for all the 3d elements of his animation. There's an old thread about it around here.

I was able to watch the first episode on a demo dvd. Was pretty good.

I saw the whole thing at Comic Con a year ago. Makoto Shinkai was also there. He said he used LightWave for all the Mecha animation and used gradients as opposed to cel-shading. Backgrounds were created in Photoshop. He spent two years working on this by himself. The only thing he wasn't responsible for was music and voice acting

i saw the movie too : great great design and mecha animation...

yep, and some voice acting was made by his cat. :applause:
