Hi all,

i been having a problem with mocap lately, i modeled a female character and added a biped from character studio in max5.

then added the physique modifier and enveloped the bones to make sure they were all correct.

then moved arms and legs to make sure everything is ok.

Once i added the mocap file: BVH files on the max media cd.

i play the animation and for some reason i see 2 or 3 links detached from the character and not following the animation.

is this a bug ? or is something wrong with my biped?

here is a screenshot of it.

Are there extra bones or links to the biped?

If so link them after physique so that new envelopes are not created.

If not I don't know what is going on.

I agree with Ls3D, it looks like some bones have been unlinked or or not linked at all to your biped. Could you show us a screen cap of your biped set up?
Also, when you import your mocap data, save that file out as a bip file, then load that bip file into a fresh scene. Max works better with bip's than directly imported mocap data. that may help you out as well.

Thanks Meatsack, you were right i saved the BVH as a BIP file and it worked, when i imported the bip the animation was correct with no link distortions.

tell me have you tried motionbuilder ? and is it worth learning it? cause i dont know if animators in gaming industry use it.

Personally, I haven't used motionbuilder. But yes there are people and companies in the game industry that use it.
I could be wrong, but I don't see why adding an extra step to the art pipeline could be productive. as it is now, I don't believe you can export from motionbuilder into a game engine package, instead you have to export back into a 3D app then export it out into a game engine. But there are people who swear by it, I can't really give you a good opinion on it, as i've never used it, maybe someone who has can offer better advice.

Glad I could you out.
