Hi everyone,

I'm a self taught rigger, don't know very much, but I thought I'd put what I do know into a reel. This isn't to get a job, it's to get me into the advanced course at school next year. Would love some critique. Unfortunately I only spent 6 hours putting it together as I have VERY limited time (due to school work).

Sadly our school only teaches two weeks of rigging, the advanced year though, I can rig all year! And I shall.

Critique as harshly as you wish, the more critical feedback I get the better.

It's not a bad start, the presentation is good, with your fancy overlay :P I would probably tone it done just a little tho, because the overlay makes it hard to see your rig ( especially the character ).

And most important, you must start your reel with your best piece, it's important to prevent your reel from being skipped, and currently the cannon part is not good enough for an opening shot, actually I would get rid of the cannon, or at least the animation part. Having an animation of your rig in your reel is very good, but the animation needs to be very good. If you really want to keep the cannon rig in there, I would make it much shorter and place it somewhere in the middle of your reel. Maybe you could show the facial rig of your character instead ?

Keep up the hard work :wip:

Thanks for that. I showed the cannon first because it's different, I mean really, what TD can't make a character with stretchy limbs and the stuff mine has, not saying my cannon is hard either, but at least it's unique. Well, that was my reason, but you still might be right. Maybe I'll change it around.

I really wanted to show some animation just to show what the rig can do, I found that very important, otherwise it's just me grabbing and moving controllers which is freaking boring. Some animation might get it past the secretary if they're one of "those" places. Even though I'm not using it to apply for a job I wanted to keep the fundamentals in mind, and at school, and admissions officer without actual 3D experience is the first to see it... afaik.

Problem with showing the facial rig is that it's just Osipa's setup, and I don't feel like it's actually mine.

edit: I'm rearranging it now, and I'm re-rendering the animation with motion blur - should help somewhat.

Website is up, has both my reels on it :)

Any critique on the website (which is pretty much generated by wordpress with only small customization so I'm not trying to take credit for that), or the two reels, is very welcome.
