Hi. I'm doing this jetpack goblin for 3d college homework, tell me what you think.

Here are the backgrounds I used/am going to use:

Here's the mesh so far (***updated***):

looks good so far....

what will the jetpack look like...i get this idea whan i see it, made of wood and spare metal parts...

its your character, so its your call...im not trying to be pushy...jsut helpful maybe :)

looks awesome though...a good job on the design to keep it from looking like every other orc/goblin...

Thx for the comments :D
The jetpack will probably be wood and rusted metal, it has to be very disfunctional. I am going to use this goblin for my demo's introduction logo. He's gonna be flying around in his loud jetpack with flames sparking here and there, looking not too solid, when all of a sudden you see him coming towards the screen and he hits the screen with his head. After he falls on the ground, the camera zooms on his head where you see the logo "Goblin Entertainment" printed on it. That's the plan for now.

I like how the model is comming along. It seems to have better proportions than the sketch.

Yeah, well i`m not great at drawing so the sketches arent perfect, but I find it alot easier to tweak a 3d model than a picture so I spent a little more time adjusting proportions. Of course he doesnt have human proportions, but I tried to exagerate certain things so he looks like a goblinoid (long arms, long fingers, small legs, etc)

I wanted to model his shoe laces, with holes in the boots and everything. What is the best technique I should use? I was thinking of making the laces with a spline and then extruding along the spline using a cube. It might sound a little overdetailed for a game model but since the poly count is already pretty low and i think it looks rather good, I decided to put all the juice, especially since it's for the logo.

Well, extruding along splines worked a charm, and took less than 15 minutes. Here's a tiny update.

what does that do to your polycount? I'm wondering of those polys might be better used to define his arms and pecs a bit more?

Polys aren't really a problem, and after adding the laces and belt details it's at 1800 polys. As for the pecs I am scarred of venturing there. I am not a genie of muscle anatomy and I must sadly admit that these are the best pecs I ever modelled. But if you have any specific suggestions on how I could improve em, I'd be happy to hear. Some people told me their were a bit too big, so I might make em smaller.

Here's the beggining of the head. The goggles will be modelled separatly.
Crits are always welcome (actually please do crit!)

Just a silly meshsmooth render with advanced lighting. It's useless but I thought it looked cool so I'll post it anyways.

I was gonna screw with the thickness of the neck, but it seems to fit with goblinoid proportions and the pecs so i'll probably end up just making the arms a little thicker instead so it fits better.

To be honest I wasn't particular fond of your concept art work, however you have done a very faithful accurate and proffesional job with the modelling.

I like the hands and the ears the only thing that I think looks odd is the very flat pronounced ridge along the pectorial muscles ( man breasts :)

Nice work

The face needs some improvement, I would make it look more characteristic (everything sharper except for the ears, they're great) . Can't wait to see the textured model :D.

Thanks for the crits! I got the exact same comments on IRC so i'll work on changing both of those things.

Hey thanks for critiquing my model! By edgloops, do you mean the straps that go on his jetpack? Keep updating your model!!! I wanna see more of it!

No, I meant the way to organize your edges to define muscles realistically. I have problems with the arm muscles, I kinda fixed the shoulder muscles yesterday, but the place where the upper arm and lower arm meet, i have difficulties there.

He definetly went through a nice transformation. I agree his pecs need to tie in with his delts.

sorry to bump but this is my first time ever cellshading, crits would be nice.

the cell shading looks good but maybe needs to be more rounded. and the eyes look cross eyed but despite this it looks good. Maybe add more details to the character he seems flat cell shaded.

updated image above. fixed eyes, thinner ink. and about the detail, he'll look much cooler with his goggles and jetpack, i can picture him already ;)

The head and the ear especially are looking really good. Can't wait to see what he looks like with goggles and a texturemap....

The only suggestion I'd make is that the arms seem a little thin, like around the elbow and shoulders. Think of the way the pectoral muscles connect to the deltoid... the whole region would be a little fatter and the armpit wouldn't poke up into the body so strongly because the deepest part would be hidden with a layer of muscle in front and back. You could always look up some human anatomy pics online and use those as reference.

Whoa, nevermind, the pics I was looking at were out of date. Great improvement! And I take back what I said about the pecs :-)
