you really should allow ppl to d/l the video, and also use a codec that is really popular, such as DivX.

damm 60mb xvid reel and its the small one too. u really need to encode it with dvix or maybe avi or quicktime mpeg 4. cuts down the size considerably. Once its downloaded, i'll give ya a crit ;)

fyi, your website looks nice, except that when u click the html resume, it does not rescale to the window.

Whether xvid or divx the size remains the same. If I make the file 1/2 size and rerender with divx I loose about 2MB on file size from the large version and the image looks pretty bad. If I make it a quicktime file (tried sorensen 3 codec and mpeg4 codec) the file ends up being around 500MB. I don't seem to have much luck in getting a codec to compress this very much. I'll keep playing around and see if I can get it down to resonable size. And I removed to smaller version of the xvid cause I needed space on the server.

I love the MGS 2 soundtrack, I listen to it on my ipod ;)

Is this an all round demo reel or specific to one genre, like modeling and texturing? cause at the moment, its a good start, but its a little long. My demo reel is about 1 minute long, thats what I was told by a industry professionals when I asked at siggraph, they said that the tape lasts about 5 seconds, before its ejected. Unless there something really good to keep them watching.

3.22 minutes is a bit long. U need to show your best work at the beginning. The rotating models are great, 2 rotations maybe good, but 3 i think is too many. maybe a half turn in wireframe, to textured. but do u need to show the close up camera?

The flashy text looks good and all, but not needed for a demo reel. distracts me from the objects.

When rotating the characters, you could save some time, but having them animated in shaded view maybe being animated, then dissolving to color. I understand the big process of doingall the different attack cycles, but id show less of each.

If your going to break up the reel, into categories, maybe make each category maybe 25 seconds. remeber showing best stuff.
btw, what r these characters for? I'd like to see what u modeled them for, like if its a mod or a game, it would allow the viewer to see you got your feet wet in some developement.

also, the slate at the end, the text is a little difficult to read over the background. May i suggest a black background with white text.

My demo reel, has gone through so many revisions. Im never satified with it. but getting feedback from other artists helped it alot. I hope I helped you. :)

Thanks for the tips Hirigashi! This is for an all around demo. I was planning on splitting it into smaller genre specific reels once I got some more feedback. You had some great comments there and I will take them into consideration while I make changes.

Any comments on which models should be first? You said best work first but I've been looking at them too long and need to get an unbiased opinion.

These models were made for a couple of diffrent things. The characters were just for the demo, I could probably put them into a game but I want to move on. I'm making some new characters to put into a mod, as well as an environment for unreal tournament (thats what the box and lamp were for) so those will be good examples of experience. I just have to finish them first. The vehicals were for a student project that fell apart at the last minute and they ended up not being used.

Thanks again for the great tips!

Gah!!!
I download all of that.... and only to get.... error downloading codec.....

BTW, did you have to attain any rights to publish the music with your work? Seems I get no visual but hear something.

did u install the xvid codec? u needed that to view them, unless he updated it with the divx codec.

Yeah my roommate reuploaded his page and accidentally deleated all my files. Its his server so I can't get too mad. I'll have to reupload everything again. But got to go to work in the mean time so I'll do that when I get home.
