Hi,
Some quick noob questions (I have a total of 4 days of max training under my belt so far) - a link to related threads or tutorials would be good.
I am completing an environment of an abandonded blacksmith shop. I want to have some stagnant water in the low areas of the floor which is a bunch of cracked flagstones. I created a water material applied to a plane intersecting the floor but it doesn't look enough like real water to suit me so I wanted your tips as far as what combination of maps/rendering options etc might give a good result.
My other basic question is on using scatter. I extracted a shape from the floor box which represented the low edges in the floor and I made some simple weeds and tried to have them grow between the flagstones. It works -sort of- but for some reason the weeds are attached to the middle of the extracted shape. I tried many combinations of the settings but can't seem to get the base of the plants to 'grow' from the selected shape between the flagstones and so half of each plant is below the floor.
I tried to create the scatter and delete the shape -also did the same with a scattering of some broken bricks- just leaving the plants and bricks but it doesn't seem possible. If I create a shape just to define a scatter area is there a way to delete that shape and keep the scattered objects?
Thanks for any help.
[EDIT: Just wanted to add that I have no problem reading the manual and paying my dues -in case it sounds like that. The project is due in this weekend and while I have been able to do the job pretty well using what we have learned so far I'm being picky and want to add something 'extra' and make it nicer... left to my own devices I'd be picking at this forever an likely never be satisfied but I figure these few extra details and a bit of work with the lighting will give decent first timer results.]
