royterr 10-28-2010, 09:00 AM i am trying to achieve this kind of terrain:

i know that most of the look can be obtained through the diffuse/bump channel of the material but i want an interesting base geometry for that , making very smooth dunes didn't give a convincing result, any guidelines? (using maya)

Did you try displacing the terrain with some 3d noise map ? Also that could enhance your shader look if you would blend some patches of different texture here and there using clever noises combination...
