View Full Version : Multilayer shader and displacement?
fuzilogic 10-28-2010, 02:16 AM So I have been trying to get some sort of setup in mentalray(maya) going for blending textures, basically for environment stuff with alot of tiled textures. I am using JS Multilayers which works wonderfully for the basics, but Id love to throw in displacement, I know it would be taxing and maybe not really worth it render time wise but still, I havent had any luck getting it to work. Has anyone done this? Is this a stupid idea?

hi!
if I understand correct you want to use multi-layered displacement? Why not! I don't know JS Shaders, but you can also make this with Maya's layered texture OR my new-found-favorite-toy, mib_color_mix. I would also try to control the layering opacities with alpha maps and/or procedural maps.

Maybe if you use the Approximation Editor you will save a bit on the rendering time and precision too.

thanks, after a while I got it working. not quite as simple as I had envisioned though :(
