Hey guys, sorry to have to come for help with something probably blatantly simple but for the life me I just cant work it out!

Heres the problem..

Im trying to make the edge circled a hard edge so that when its smoothed it keeps to a nice crisp right angle, but no matter how I do it I only get pinching or other errors in the mesh. I've tried doing it this way..

Not only do I have the 3 sided poly, but the edges that run to the back of the model create a seam. I've sat and tried allsorts but cant work it out!

There also seems to be no tutorials on the internet that show a way out that I can find.

Fresh eyes are always much help.. does anyone know how to fix the problem I have? :cry:

Try this:

- yellow colored lines: new edges
- green colored lines: new edges that have to be adjusted (see arrows) to retain curvature of the surface.
- pink colored lines: existing edges that have to be adjusted to retain curvature of surface.

What you did in Image 2 is the right thing, you simply made a slight error. Besides, you need to tweak the edges. Look what I did here. One of the additional edges goes off to the upper left, horizontally. The other goes off the lower right, vertically.

I've marked the original new edgeloops in red. This is where they will be after you insert them on either side of the corner edge to create a sharp corner. Simply slide them until they are positioned like I've shown with the Green edges. That is where they are supposed to be.

It is naturally difficult to avoid pinching when you have a totally smooth surface transform into a hard 90 degree corner all of a sudden. With this method, you simply have to space out the new edgeloops so that they are centered in the average middle between existing edgeloops. That way you won't get any hard edges where the surface is supposed to stay smooth.
