Ok. I am trying to make a photo-realistic video of actual buildings at my school. I have spent 4 weeks in Maya modeling them (what a B*ATCH) and it looks really great. But it's lacking that final good, true to life look that I want. My question is: what is the best light set-up and renderer to simulate real sunlight? I have Mental Ray and Renderman at my disposal (havent tried either), and I could export the file to Softimage XSI if there is some way to make that better. I am rendering the file on an Origin 2000 64-proc server so rendering time is of little concern. I just want it to look as realistic as possible. Most of the buildings are brick, and all the bricks are bumpmapped for realism. I am going to start rendering on Saturday, but I expect a good debate on this one :) Right now, for testing purposes, I have a directional light at 1.8 with a single ambient light at .2. It actually makes pretty believable sunlight, but is missing that KICK. Thanks everyone!
Oh, and what is the best way to texture white wood? Its hard because the only noise is dirt, flecks, etc. and none of the standard textures seem to do the job. Any ideas? THANKS!
