View Full Version : Thanks.
thanks for all of the help. I've got a new question for you.
My head is now ready to be UV unwrapped and I've gotten that far. Now my problem is whenever I try to layout the UVs, it splits the head in the middle. Is there a way to avoid this, because it makes a seam? I must be missing something.
Also, how do I get the texture map into maya? This must be similar to Importing an image like in flash? Can anyone give me any tips? I'm using Photoshop and I'm making targa files. thanks again for the help.

It looks like the geometry is split. Did you merge the two parts? You need to use Polygons>Combine and then Edit Polygons>Merge Vertices.
Ok, I combined the two parts, and I merged the vertices, now I have a similiar problem. It wants to split the UVs in the middle. Hmmm. I cant figure it out. (I'm also having trouble transfering the UVs back to my original head. Does this matter at all? :shame: I'm such a noob.)
Another question as well. Once I paint on my texture, how do I bring it back into Maya? Thanks for the help.

if you project the uvs, and then duplicate and combine; you'll also have to combine the uvs. sorry, should've mentioned that earlier.
Just select the edges (in the UV texture editor) that should be combined and go to Polygons>Move and Sew. This will combine the duplicate UVs, but it will move the whole mesh together so as to avoid distorting it.
As to bringing the file texture into maya:
1)open hypershade (Windows>Rendering Editors>Hypershade)
2)Create>Materials>pick one (lambert,blinn, phong, etc)
3)double click on the material's icon
4)click the checkerbox next to color (or whatever channel you're working on)
5)choose File out of the visor that pops up
6)click on the folder next to Image Name
7)browse to your texture (.jpg, .tif, .tga, .sgi, etc)
8)hit ok on open dialouge, close attribute editor
9)select your model
10) rt click (in Hypershade) on material (lamber, blinn, phong)
11)choose Assign Material to Selection
The move and Sew thing didnt work. Am I supposed to do it before I layout the UVs or after? The problem only occurs when I layout the UVs. What else could I be doing wrong?
please excuse the double posting
Here's another question that might help me: Why do I even have to layout the UVs? can't I jst take a snapshot of my UVs and use that? What does laying out the UVs do? thanks:thumbsup:
