You know, I really can't hink of anyone particular that as a character really stands out to be a favorite.. There are to many ways to look at what you mean by favorite. The thread thats going on about character design eludes to this.

Do you mean as far as a perfect fit for a game? Gordan Freeman
Story of the character? unknown
Visuals of the character?
Animation/motions? Scorpio
Sounds? Serious Sam
ect..

In example my favorite game Deus Ex main character is kinda plain Jane.. he doesn't become a individual until you work with him and shape his future.

Then for things like sounds, Serious Sam would be up there for being over the top. But his character design is cliche.

Motions would have to be like Scorpio with his original hook move.

I mean but then you get into Story and such.. and that implies emotion. And most characters in games dont motionally motivate me. The closest was the main character from Silent Hill 2, but even then he seemed two dimensional. This probably ties into the whole idea of the industry still trying to find a voice other than just the fun factor.

So overall, I dont have a favorite. Certain characters are strong in certain areas, but in other fail thus leaving no real standout favorite.

Actually the above is kinda funny to admit since I want to make characters.

Duke Nukem was awesome. Though Scorpiopn beats him just due to the fact that he was a first of his kind and he was debut in the game that made Parents take there children out of arcades and gave birth to the ESRB hehehe.

Garrett!!! He is the all time number one hero. Saving the world while all the time wishing that some else would do it so he could get back the breaking into nobles homes and robbing them blind.
Thief and the other Thief games are teh coolest. (Sam Fisher wishes he was as sneaky as Garrett. Though Splinter Cell is up there with my favorite games.)

Oh, Raziel from Soul Reaver is cool too. But he's already been mentioned.

In soul-Caliber 2 on the game-cube, once you get to play as link, he has a move where he jumps on the enemys shoulders...starts spanking them on their arse with his sword, and rides 'em like a friggen donkey...its great...
