Hey cgtalkers, just wrapped up this short animation, created as a personal project. I was inspired by a piece of music, by Gustav Embretsen (http://www.disk2.com/), called Fight! which is the song playing during the video game. Other influences include Marv Newland, Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job, and the Zucker brothers' work.

Still looking for any and all feedback which could make the short better. In particular, I debated for a while about cutting away to frantic shots of the kids mashing buttons. It seemed logical but felt jarring when I actually put them in there. Maybe you guys have some other ideas.

This short features additional music by:

Daisuke Ishiwatari
Calculating King - Guilty Gear Isuka OST

James Horner
The Genesis Cave - Star Trek II OST

Gaetano Donizetti
Dies Irae - Messa da Requiem

Thanks for checking it out and enjoy!

I really liked the idea and enjoyed the Street Fighter looking game. I laughed as the fight
was becoming more and more extreme.

Animation was nice, as for the render/compositing I would have maybe added an occlusion
pass to the compositing to have some soft shadows in the corner areas. But it's a personal
opinion.

Nice work!

Glad you liked it, thanks for checking it out! I must admit, I'm not sure what's involved with doing an occlusion pass. Rendering is not my forte; basically I use Maya Software for everything. I played with GI early on, and it looked amazing, but the render times per frame were so oppressively long that I abandoned the idea of using it for the entire short. Any input would be greatly appreciated, not sure if I'd re-render this entire monster but I'd definitely consider it for the next one.

An occlusion pass kind of try to fake GI, it's much faster and gives more details to the
render. I was just saying that because if you look for example at the screenshot where
the two kids are outside, there is no shadow where the wall of the house and the ground
meet. Making it looking somehow flat.

This is I think the only thing I can think of, that there could be a little bit more shadow to
polish the render.

You are absolutely right about GI renders, sometimes it take ages and it's not necessary.

Congratulations on finishing this, it's always hard especially for a short film made solo

Ah thanks, I see. Glad you liked it, I'll look into doing an occlusion pass, maybe on just the outdoor stuff.

Made a few updates, mainly to the fight scene. A few friends had some suggestions that I think worked out pretty well; they're small changes but I think they're improvements:

Here are the updates:

- Showed the faces in the top corners get damaged/beat up
- Added dockworker guys in the background
- Zoomed in to show Kira getting hit with the rocket
- Decreased size of laser embers during brief shot of laser hitting Fists
- Removed held frames during the zoom-out to outer space

I'm still thinking about the occlusion pass; though the more I think about it, the more I think what I might do is leave this piece as-is - and pre-plan to do an occlusion pass on the next one. I have a look that I like for the bookend shots, and they took quite a while to pull together for this version. Hope you like the other updates, let me know if you see anything else that could be improved.

I enjoyed it! Especially liked the Street fighter style video game. The animation of the characters during that part really gave a genuine feel to it.

Thanks! Glad you guys liked it. And cdragonz, yes, it's the same car at the end as during the fight.
